Designed as a love letter to retro games, 80s/90s anime, and early heavy metal, DemonSteele is a complete and total gameplay overhaul for GZDoom/Zandronum that dramatically changes the flow of the game to an extremely fast-paced hack-and-slash brawler. Wield a razor-sharp sword alongside a mighty gun, and make mincemeat of your foes before blasting away his buddies. Effortlessly dodge through return fire and lop off heads one by one. Or just simply cleave through a crowd in one single dash and swipe. Gameplay rewards thinking fast and acting faster, with enhanced movement systems (Dodges! Rocket jumping!) and your overall effectiveness based entirely on how many enemies you can plow through in a row with minimal damage to yourself. Kill fast and hard, and you'll be rewarded with a slew of special moves and a bunch of damage...hang from a distance and timidly plink at them bit by bit until they die, and you'll be ill-suited for the challenges ahead.

Hello everybody!

Boy, it's been a good few months, hasn't it? Well, hope you were expecting to rock out today, because it's time to put on the denim, blast some old-fashioned metal, and start killing demons by the dozens again. v0.8 is out! Assuming ModDB pushes this article out around the same time as the actual download, head on over to the Downloads section and rev it on up!
The changelog is absolutely massive in this version, probably triple the length of the previous release--there's polish, bug fixes, new features, addressing of criticisms, rebalancing, and much, much more. While it'd be stupid to say "this release has everything you want and more", we're getting to the point where there's so much content that the .pk3 is practically bursting at the seams now.

Player sprites? Yup, they're here!
Special attacks for guns? You got it!
More destructable objects? Oh, yes.
More enemy replacements? Have fun, you're gonna die!
More blood? Yes indeed.
Replacement sprites for the Iron Maiden's placeholder? Oh yes.
More cvars? Definitely!
A unique mid-dash attack? Carve 'em up!
Uppercutting enemies is no longer clunky? Launch 'em high!
...And that's just scraping the surface of what's been done!

As always, thank you all very much for playing. Hopefully you enjoy, and please feel free to leave any criticisms, suggestions, exclamations, concerns, death threats, or more.
