- Modeller
2 of our models have wierd show bugs that needs to be fixed
Thanks.
Did you try to fix "no free edicts" error with num_edicts 4096 at the launch?
Also - that's a coincidence - I have the same soldiers in my mod (based off german "censored" grunts) - that enough alone is fine, but the first soldier has exact same weapon as mine :D
Can't wait for the mod it looks awesome.
yep i actually removed that weapons so he only has plasmaweapons left, num edicts wont help as the soldiers and there plasmafight will hit the limit pretty hard needs something hardcoded :)
Maybe you could try Xash? I switched to it because of the expanded limits.
sorry would never do it, Xash3d is a piece of highly illicit and controversal thing as they use parts of the cude that are not licensed for players and they usually have no access tp, but well find a way around it.
As far as I know Xash is written used Quake source code (available in free access) and uses Half-Life SDK (which is also in free access) so idk. :|
I'm not a lawyer, but Xash3D is illegal to be used with HL mods, simply because of two things:
- Xash3D's licence (GPL2, which it inherited from Quake engine and CANNOT be changed) is incompatible with the HL SDK EULA
- In the HL SDK EULA, it is stated that you are allowed to use HL SDK to make games/mods running on the "Half-Life engine", i.e. GoldSRC. Xash3D is not the same as GoldSRC.
In most cases, Valve won't come after you, as long as you don't try to a) publish it on Steam, b) commercialise your mod.
Do with this information whatever you will. I'm only saying how things are.
Of course, I don't think most of modders here are trying to sell their mod anyway (I don't - it's just my hobby). I know that Xash is kind of banned to be sold on Steam, but I didn't dig any further. Of course you'd have to stick to good old goldsrc for that, but personally I don't want my imagination to be limited by old engine. The game is 20 years old, and I'm not planning to sell anything ever, so…
"I know that Xash is kind of banned to be sold on Steam"
It doesn't matter if it's free or not free, a Xash game won't be allowed on Steam without Valve's consent, which, I guess, is extremely unlikely.
I am very comfortable within GoldSRC limits, so there's no need to ever look into Xash. I can go up to 262k units, 2048 edicts is perfectly enough, I am planning to do a clientside entity system for static props to not waste edicts, and so on.
Alternatively, there is Svengine.
By free I meant "completely free", not "free on steam". Steam is out of the question.
I'm not a coder so unfortunately I didn't have many options. Xash has better render which can eat millions of epoly, mirrors, portals, parentsystem and stuff which came in very handy. To each their own I guess :)
I never heard about Svengine, will check it out! Thanks
A parenting system, mirrors, portals etc. can all be programmed in a custom HL mod.
I am working on a "tech mod" that will increase some limits without engine access, but it'll take some years lol.
I have no doubts that it can be done. Essentially that what was done, basically. I'm looking forward to whatever you make, that'd be awesome. More options is always good. :)
