Description
The image of the French knight in pop history is that of an undisciplined, arrogant, over-armored rider. In contrast to this, the actual images of French knights from the period is the opposite, often depicting them in sophisticated armor designed to provide comprehensive coverage without affecting mobility.
This funerary bronze of the vanHeer brothers dates to 1393. Now located in modern-day Belgium, it is a superb example of armor innovation on the European mainland.
