Description
Hounskull visor before bascinet over mail aventail. The ridge, as a defensive feature, first occurred in armor singly, before it later appeared in parallel forms that would be known as flutes. This was often used to reinforce the apex of compound curves if the protected region was a high-risk area, such as the head or hands.
