Originally, the project was developed as a modification for HL2, with the beginning dating back to 2012. At that time, I was independently creating standard locations for gameplay with standard NPCs. The goal was simple - to complete the locations by accomplishing various small quests, solving puzzles, and of course, defeating hostile NPCs. Later, different people joined my team and helped develop the project, for which I am grateful. The project began to grow and become something more than just a mod for HL2. Over time, I decided to make this project independent from HL2, with its unique story and plot, giving logic to the game world, as for a long time there wasn't much sense in the gameplay. The project was transferred to the Source 2013 engine and subsequently developed as a separate non-commercial game, but using Valve's resources. During development, a storyline and script were written, and it was clear what and how to do, but by this point, part of my team had dispersed. I managed to create game version 0.02 in its current form without a story, but with the possibility to play the game from start to finish. Work on the storyline only began in version 0.03 and it was turning out quite cool. I found it interesting to create different scripts and dialogues between NPCs and their interactions with the player, to leave various methods of narrating about the game world, answering players' questions about what was happening. The game gained dynamics, with different game events, and the story told of a conflict between several groups of people trapped underground with an infected life form and much more. However, by version 0.03, there were almost no people left in the team, and specialists were needed to implement the final version of the game.
Moreover, the onset of the war in Ukraine put a definitive end to the development, as for me this development was a hobby. Realities changed, life changed and won't be the same, instead of a hobby, I have to deal with other commercial matters.
Unfortunately, the game is only available in version 0.02.
Will I ever return to version 0.03? Most likely not.
However, the idea of the project lives on in my head and I hope that someday I will be able to realize it as a full-fledged independent product. Thank you for reading to the end, I wish you all the best, and thank you to everyone who supported my project all this time.

Enough time has passed since the release of Dead Lab v0.02. A new version is being developed, much has already been done, but just as much still needs to be done for version 0.03 to be released. I really wish the project could be in beta stage, but there's still a lot to be done, although on the other hand, the release will then be close. Throughout the development, I've read your comments and feedback, watched various gameplay videos to make the game even better, as it's easy to spot flaws and various errors from the outside, including those related to the game's balance. Thank you all for the testing and feedback. I will provide a list of the main changes in the new version. Screenshots are at the end.

  • Added storyline: It will become clear who we are playing as, where we are, and what is happening. Dialogues will be added, but so far only implemented through subtitles. Voice acting will appear in the next version.
  • With the storyline comes a revised script.
  • Different events will occur at locations, making the maps more dynamic.
  • New locations added to advance the plot.
  • Old locations changed: improved level design, added new sounds and soundtracks, enhanced atmosphere and optimization.
  • Some old locations removed.
  • Balance changes: fewer enemies; weapons, ammunition, and medkits are evenly scattered across locations; weapon damage has been reworked.
  • Autosaves added.
  • New NPCs added to the maps, their textures replaced, but new models will be in the next version.
  • New environmental models and textures added.
  • Some standard textures and models not used on the maps have been removed.

And many other minor changes.

После выхода Dead Lab v0.02 прошло достаточно времени, разрабатывается новая версия, многое уже сделано, но еще столько же нужно сделать, чтобы вышла версия 0.03. Очень хотелось бы, чтобы проект был в стадии beta, но для этого еще много чего нужно сделать, но с другой стороны, там уже и релиз будет близко. За все время разработки я читал ваши комментарии и отзывы, смотрел разные видео прохождения, чтобы игра стала еще лучше, ведь со стороны хорошо видно недочеты и различные ошибки, в том числе связанные с балансом игры. Всем спасибо за тест и отзывы, ну а я предоставлю вам список с основными изменениями, которые будут в новой версии. Скриншоты в самом конце.

  • -Добавлен сюжет: станет ясно за кого мы играем, где мы находимся и что вообще происходит. -Будут добавлены диалоги, но реализованы пока только через субтитры. Озвучка появится в след. версии.
  • -С сюжетом следует переработанный сценарий.
  • -На локациях будут происходить разные события, карты станут динамичными.
  • -Добавлены новые локации для продвижения сюжета.
  • -Изменены старые локации: улучшен левел дизайн, добавлены новые звуки и звуковое сопровождение, улучшена атмосфера и оптимизация.
  • -Удалены некоторые старые локации.
  • -Изменен баланс: врагов стало меньше; оружие, патроны и аптечки равномерно разбросаны по локациям; урон от оружия переработан.
  • -Добавлены автосейвы.
  • -Добавлены новые NPC на картах, их текстуры заменены, но новые модели будут в след. версии.
  • -Добавлены новые модели окружения и текстуры.
  • -Удалены некоторые стандартные текстуры и модели, которые не используются на картах.

Ну и много других мелких изменений. Если все будет хорошо, то релиз новой версии будет в 2020г.

Now is the time. It's a pity that it all happened. The project, although slowly, continued to develop and was supposed to be released as a separate game on the source engine. But I'm from Ukraine, the city of Kharkov. At the beginning of the war, development was completely stopped. And now I understand that I won’t finish on my own, I have no moral strength and somehow I don’t see the point in it. Some people from Russia helped in the development of the project. But you understand.
Perhaps I will post only part of what was done, but the changes concerned only the balance and visuals, according to the plot, everything is embroidered.

Had to play alpha 1 again. If you can get English actors for the finale release, this will go far. A bit of a story line. Atmosphere is awesome.
The joke mod is cool, but couldn't stand them chatting the same thing over and over again. Good luck.
