I found a great piece of free software today called Open Broadcaster Software, and it helped me make some demo videos for Darkness. The video quality is decent and unlike the Source Engine's built-in demo recording tools, it properly shows bug-vision and the in-game menus.
So without further adieu, here's a quick video showing how the Engineer and Breeder classes can be used. For the Engineer, this clip shows basic construction, destruction, repair and destroy-gun jumping. For the Breeder, this clip shows hatching, eating, stacking/climbing, and using the invisible bug-glow to navigate dark areas:
Next, I made a video showing how the commando is used. It shows how to use grenades, prime and drop C4, and use the .357 Magnum and the silenced SMG:
Finally, I made a quick video showing some of the Stalker's attacks. This clip shows how to use spike grenades and shoulder-fired spikes to kill turrets, how to use a healer, and how to die while attempting to destroy turrets up-close:
cool stuff, got me tracking!
I'm a huge Gloom fan and I logged so many damn hours into it in my youth, I've been waiting for a sequel, Tremulous/Natural Selection just doesn't do it for me!
I was wondering if you can make a mapping guide in the same vain as this one steamcommunity.com/ sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=282059949 (remove the space in URL) just to help me get started.
I haven't done mapping in a while but I've been playing around in hammer a lot lately, absorbing a bunch of tutorials, and I think I'll be shootin out maps soon.
I'm interested in making homages to Gloom maps. Also is there a good place to give input on the mod so far?
Yea, sure I can make a mapping guide--It would be awesome to have some maps from Gloom... My personal favorite is gloom4/deadstar, but I don't have a good memory of the map layout.
I just made a forum here on moddb so you can post feedback/ideas here if you want. You can also find me in the Steam group for Darkness, there's only 2 people in it right now, but we could at least schedule map testing time or something.
Forgot to add: I have a mapping guide up at the main site: Darkness.dnbrown.net
