2022, Radical communist rebels Communist Party of the Philippines have proclaimed the People's Republic of the Philippines. It's armed wing, the New People's Army, launched an assault to the National Capital Region in order to take control of Manila, the Philippines' capital, after almost three decades of engaging in guerilla warfare, and also have launched a campaign in Visayas to wipeout the pro-government communist forces, the Revolutionary Workers' Party and its armed wing the Revolutionary Proletarian Army-Alex Boncayao Brigade, a breakaway group from the NPA. In response, the government and the RPA declares an all out war against the NPA. With the communist threat also imminent in the far south, the newly founded Bangsamoro, an autonomous region in Mindanao, declares war against the NPA and saw the need to reactivate its defunct armed wing, the Bangsamoro Islamic Armed Forces who recently made peace with the government.
