Preview of combat - Demonstration of how the pike and shot works (arty is there but not very tuned, no cav)
The goal for the combat is to recreate the combat of Thirty Years' War.
- Muskets are extremely inaccurate and won't do much damage at long ranges.
- Swedish army should be more agressive - get volleys off at point blank range, charge with pikes/musketeers.
- Spanish/Imperial have larger units and more suited for defense.
- (These distinctions are only partially implemented atm)
There are two ways to test the combat:
- Custom battle: Take swedish/spanish pikemen/muskets and also give the ai swedish/spanish pikemen/muskets
- Campaign: Start a campaign with Portugal (the faction is placeholder). You will start with a swedish army of 3 squadrons (=the well known swedish brigade). Move your general out of your home city, spend two turns and let your home city make rebels. You can fight the Christian rebel army to see what East (AI) vs West (you) battle will be like.
Unit sizes:
- The unit scale is historic 1:1 at Ultra, but I think the unit sizes are good at large/medium also.
- Ultra I think is a little large and runs worse
