So. It's been a while.

Let's start right off with some expectations management: I don't know if we're going to finish TO. I loved working on it, from day one all the way up to when Morpher and I accepted that the two of us did not have the time or energy to work alone on this ludicrously ambitious project.

But when some of the TO team members from the good ol' days started making noise and trying to get things rolling again, we both decided we'd rather be involved. Will it work out this time? I have no idea!

For now I'm keeping my sights small. Finishing the core graphics set for both factions, making sure the game is a functional, fun skirmish/multiplayer experience. It's a little disappointing to de-prioritise campaign assets—the things I have the most fun making—but for the good of the project I think it's time to put releasing a playable build front and centre.

Can we do it? Will we do it? I don't know. But if you want to see what's going on we've got a little Discord server set up, and anyone is welcome to drop by. Give me a shout there, I'm always happy to talk TO.

Here's a link to go to there.

And as always, Kane lives in death.

Good luck, I'm rooting for you. If ever there was a game more fun to mod with, I don't know it.

I am just baffled by the supposed need to remake or redesign things you guys already had done for "artistic cohesion".

Also do you really need to 100% finish it prior to release? I mean, look at TI its pathetic they still have stock buildings all over the place but still won moty multiple times or got close to it.

Yes we all are, see what you idiots at PPM don't understand is that when you're being a major tease, especially when you're being a tease for years, then people do care about it.

People expect to get it eventually. Sure you're not obliged to ever deliver anything, but that just means that nobody can sue you. People can absolutely be sad or mad or disappointed or outraged or whatever.

Personal freedom buddy.

Also imagine how much greater your mod and all TS mods would be if you had a new hyperpatch. Another thing the fools at PPM didn't understand.

This looked really good https://www.moddb.com/mods/cc-tiberian-odyssey/videos

I dunno how much of that is still present, but this constant drive for higher and higher quality and more and more effort thrown into every detail is clearly killing mods.

And then people go to other mods and say they're junk because they don't look as good as TI which I never enjoyed playing.

What are you all so afraid of? Wouldn't it be sad if one day you lost all your files? You even posted somewhere that a lot was lost because people who worked at the mod suddenly disappeared.

I think you're oversimplifying a lot of things, and taking a confrontational tone about it doesn't help. I don't think it's necessary. And, while I can understand your frustrations, you being frustrated doesn't actually make anyone want to work any harder or any faster.

As for "a new Hyperpatch", I've listened to Hyper explain the process of reverse engineering the bulk of the TS engine, and it's not a simple or easy job. The idea that all of our problems would be solved if Hyper simply downed a few more bottles of vodka and got down to learning the deep magic of an obscure 90's 2D RTS engine is laughable, and honestly it ignores the toll that that sort of thing takes. Calling people fools for not wanting to take on such an intense task is deeply condescending.

If you want a detailed explanation for the other things going on in TO's history that you have touched on, I am happy to continue this in private message. Assuming you have any actual interest in hearing the answers, and aren't just here to bitterly vent about how you haven't been able to police how I do my hobbies.

Well now he's downing bottles of vodka to learn the RA engine which is basically the TS engine and attempts to recreate it. Apparently thats easier?

I am not policing your hobbies.

Well how much longer do you want my reply to be ofc I simplify things.

Perhaps the message is just: stop doubting what yo have and try to be realistic about things.

I checked out SCIPION and his mod again lately. Ofc 0 progress visible in 5 years and he tells us he goes to university and is working on 2 total conversion mods. Ofc a single dude can do university and 2 total conversion mods. Why not? Thats totally realistic.

I have no desire to discuss this further. I wish you good luck. No need to waste your time with chat about history or your poll.

I'd love to see a new gameplay video, I think we all do. Ya know, I am pretty convinced that I have the best and most fun gameplay but would love to get proven wrong.

Oh and finally I know of your mod since 2011 so I waited 8 years before I asked you to get it done.

Getting on people's cases for saying "Hey, here's something I'm working on(For free/exposure), and I hope to share it with you in a state I can feel proud of!"
That's a bad look, especially from someone not contributing to the project.
I haven't seen anyone get this bent out of shape over a mod not being prematurely released in over 8 years, and guess what, it was over this same game, back when C&C 3 was still in the hands of Westwood.
It's one thing if someone's asking for money, Star Citizen, but that's not f'n okay when there's really no cost to you, I mean unless the only reason you're not taking up a project of your own is because you expect this to fulfill that itch, I guess.
Like, I get it, we're all excited, but that's the wrong takeaway.

And of course reverse engineering RA is easier than TS. RA didn't even have 3D terrain, let alone deformation, they came out 3 years apart, also if my memory serves, TS is an extra heaping helping of spaghetti over RA.

Hyperpatch doesn't reverse engineer TS it just patches some things like having multiple walltowers so there can't just be one composite tower that can be built into walls.

Its Ares for TS. (totally not accurate description I know)

Please stay out of the discussion your knowledge doesn't suffice but its nice/great that you are so interested.

While we're at it. REWIRE and TS Asset Expansion are also canceled. The later was supposed to be released but dev never did. He has the files and they are rotting on the HDD.

They also deleted TS UMP but I still had it and someone else uploaded it.

How do you think you patch an engine that you don't have the source code for, my dude?

I don't fully understand it myself, since I'm a layperson, but we're not just talking hex edits to existing code here. Those are cool and pretty useful, but they're bandaid fixes to minor things, and definitely not the holy grail you're hoping for. They come with big problems too, like the how they are hell to maintain and add to. There's a reason that NPatch and RockPatch were abandoned.

If you want to add a feature to TS in the way that Ares does for RA2, you need to let the engine run normally until it gets to that feature, make it execute your code (provided by a separate dll), and then make it go back to functioning normally.

To do that you need to know some things. Where in the engine does your new feature start? Where does it end? What relevant variables are being tracked by the engine at this time? And so on, and so on.

And to answer those questions, you're probably going to need to reverse engineer what's going on. The fact that you're this dense is starting to set off the ol' Troll Alarm to be honest.

For someone who is done discussing this, you're still pretty actively discussing this. Frankly, I don't know what you want from me or what you gain by throwing a tantrum—here of all places—and if it continues I will start exercising my moderator powers.

I am not throwing a tantrum you idiot. Just like every other ****** in this community, you're all precious little butterflies that can't take even the slightest bit of criticism.

WTF does any of that worthless **** you write have to do with the matter at hand? Jeffman is the mentally disabled idiot who has 0 idea what Hyperpatch is and explains to me that TS engine is more complex than RA engine which clearly shows that he has serious mental retardation going on.

Any pigeon with a rodents brain knows that TS is more advanced than RA.

What does any of the stuff you wrote have to do with the fact that Hyper is an asswhipe who doesn't upload what he has done since 2013? Ah yes nothing. You just want to change topic and create a false narrative to wrongly accuse me of being dense.

Fully blown out idiots you all are.

Your mod is gonna suck as if a bunch of idiots could make something good.

WTF does Star Citizen have to do with anything ah yes just gonna throw some completely unrelated BS into the argument.

You are the Duke Nukem Forever of modding. See? I can do it too.

I was done discussing this with you, again you don't get that either you dense piece of **** but now I am done with him and done with you and we can all go back to do something that is fun.

For now, all of that stuff will be on freeze. In the project but not actively under development. Once the build and the team are stable we can start prioritising these things again.
