Carnivores Custom Edition (CCE) started as humble community mod using the Carnivores source-code. It's now evolving into a full-fledged engine redesign which basically turns the world of Carnivores upside down and shakes it all around before setting it back down on the ground again. The mod is already showing huge improvements to the existing engine such as AI and Weapon improvements, our aim is to eventually have a hunting engine that displays an ecosystem full of varied and rich AI as well as the joys of blasting a vicious Carnivore.
I've been working hard for quite a while and the fruits of my labor are deliciously sweet. So far the new D3D9 renderer has not crashed on any machines that were unable to run the old Direct3D 7 version of Carnivores 2/IA, this means people with newer computers and better hardware as well as people who have strange machines or onboard graphics, are more likely to be able to play this game in hardware mode with all the perks. The OpenGL version of this renderer update is slightly behind but once it catches up, we will have a complete hardware 3D API coverage with the ability to add new things to the engine without worrying about the older API's issues, such as Shaders, higher resolution textures and better device compatability!
