Star Trek Armada: Blaze Of Glory is a total conversion taking place during the Dominion War era.

Post news Report RSS Change of concepts...again

Canon, canon, canon! That's my goal to achieve. Following this principle the mod's face changed over the years. There are several limitations due to Armada's engine so when a new idea or concept comes up there are two possibilities: 'try and win' or 'try and fail'. Second is the most likely one. Facing this fact, many ideas were dropped...bringing up new ideas and possibilites.

There are always 4 factors which happened to delay the mod's release again and again. If only one gets changed it takes influence on the others for sure. Those factors are:

New ideas
New models
New knowledge
and new concepts

Many of these new ideas used to come up in the past days.
It all started with the Nova/Miranda dilemma. After changing the Nova Class to the Miranda Class I've noticed that a fact I never liked before still remained:

The Federation Alliance had 3 Shipyards - San Francisco Type, McKinley Type and Nemesis Type.

  • San Francisco Type would build: Sabre Class, Miranda Class, Intrepid Class, B'Rel Class, Kestrel Class
  • McKinley Type would build: Excelsior Class, Steamrunner Class, Akira Class, K'T'Inga Class, Vor'Cha Class
  • Nemesis Type would build: Defiant Class, Nebula Class, Galaxy Class, Negh'Var Class, D'deridex Class

Now, 3 Federation Yards would build Klingon and Romulan Ships. This sounds wrong all over! But how would I get rid of this problem?

Due to A1's engine limitations there's no other way than building them in shipyards or starbases. Adding Klingon and Romulan shipyards was no option because the Federation construction ship would still have to build those stations. Add Klingon and Romulan construction ships for only one station each? No way!

So here are the new (already built in) concepts:

  • The Kestrel Class (Romulan Shuttle) launches (actually builds) a hailing beacon which calls-in (also builds) the Romulan Warbirds. It takes no time for building the Warbird (0.1; just imagine the Warbird decloaks at the Hailing Beacon's position), but it will be damn expensive. On the one hand this makes the use of the Kestrel Class more interesting and on the other hand the D'deridex Class won't block the building list of the Federation shipyards anymore. The Kestrel Class is built at DS9 now (like Senator Vreenak's shuttle leaving DS9).
  • San Francisco Type Yard now builds: Sabre Class, Miranda Class, Intrepid Class and Excelsior Class
  • Nemesis Type Yard now builds: Steamrunner Class, Akira Class, Defiant Class, Nebula Class and Galaxy Class
  • McKinley Station will remain as a repair dock only as the other 2 yards won't be able to repair.
  • I'm not really sure about the Klingon ships yet. Most likely they will be built next to the Outpost Station, like they'd rendezvous there.

These are the major changes on the Federation.
There are several changes for the Dominion as well. News coming within the next days or weeks.

The first beta will be uploaded here - as you can still call it a beta version ;-)
I'm working on this mod for years now, so I hope to bring a stable and clean version from the beginning.
