Beyond the Grave is a Wolfenstein 3D/Doom based total conversion by J. Nicholas Lewis (aka ThunderEnema) set in the late 19th century. You play as Sartana, a highly decorated ex-union soldier and a feared bounty hunter, who was left for dead but returned as something otherworldly. Sartana will stop at nothing to get his vengeance and discover his true purpose.

Coding, Story, and Mapping by J. Nicholas Lewis (ThunderEnema)

Graphics/Sprite & Texture editing by Tristan Hill (Gerolf)

Promotional Artwork/Title Screen Artwork by Jesse Stevens

Beyond the Grave is compatible with Windows XP/Vista/7/8/10 (in my experience, the game works best with Windows Vista and Windows 7 operating systems). The mod is standalone, so no additional files or software are needed to play it. The mod is free to play. Files must be UNZIPPED/EXTRACTED to play.

Great total conversion with a good variety of weapons and alternate fire :)

I played the game up to the level where you're in the graveyard for the 3rd? time and the spectres are introduced.

While playing I jotted down some notes which I encountered in the first version.
-Music volume control does not work.
-The short duration of the crystal balls makes them almost useless.
Perhaps I'm not using them correctly but I have never found a secret with them.

Sorry about the music volume issue.

As far as Crystal Balls are concerned, the video of Milanor's play through might help (link is below). He uses the Crystal Ball between the 15:28-15:35 mark. Crystal Balls highlight secret walls. You only want to use them in areas where you think there might be a secret. I may fix how they work in a future patch.

Anyway, glad you like the game.

Will there be any future expansions or updates to this mod? I just finished it and I'm really digging it here. Fixing to do another run. Can't seem to get enough Beyond the Grave.

I do plan on releasing Version1.01 toward the end of this month (hopefully)... this version will include some minor bug fixes, a detailed .pdf game manual, 1 or 2 secret levels, and possibly a new weapon. I also have plans for an add-on, but I don’t have details about it right now.

I am pleased to know that you enjoyed the game! Thanks for playing and leaving feedback.

Nice mod so far. So I have a few questions.

1. What do some of these pick up items do like the owl eyes, crystal ball, etc? I activated them in game and they appear to wear off rather quickly. Maybe add tombs or an in game item that explains what they do?

2. How does dual wielding work? I can cycle to my right and left handed weapons but it appears i cannot use both revolvers at the same time. Is this a feature I can unlock on a later level (on level 2 atm)?

3. Are there any keys to assign strafing to? It's kind of difficult dodging for cover with the basic move forwards, backwards, turn left and right keys. You might want to add strafing in a later build.

4. What's the main title music from? I'm really digging it. If that is an original track you made then thumbs up.

Overall I'm enjoying what I've been playing. Really liking the Blood aesthetics and dark tone of the mod.

There is a READTHIS.txt file in the game folder that should tell you everything you need to know. You can also access information about the game in the game menu (select READ THIS in the game menu).

The menu music is a song called Iconoclast by the band Icon.

I am glad you are enjoying it.

Did you by any chance reduce the tempo of the original song and/or cover the song by yourself? I've opened up Iconoclast by Icon on youtube and the song has a quicker time signature it seems. I like your version better; It feels more dark and grim which suits the overall moodiness rather well.

Yes, editing, including reducing the tempo of the original song, was done. I am glad you like it! :)

1. Owl eyes highlight enemies making their sprites a little brighter than the surrounding environment (in the same manner that blood does with beast vision). It's a bit glitchy though at long distances. Crystal ball is supposed to reveal secrets but it's hard to tell in what way. Some hint tombs exist already in the form of E pickups giving hints on how to use the items effectively.

2.There is no true dual wielding mechanic. There is only the Rainmakers which drops as it's own weapon and it gets pretty common the closer you get to the first boss.

3.This SDL mod uses WASD style of binds, so you can strafe with A(left) and D(right) by default.

4.The author may have to answer that one, as it sounds pretty cool too.

Hope this helps somewhat.
