Even with the new strategy games that have been developed around the theme (without detracting from them in any way), they don't capture the moment of combat like this mod.
If you are passionate about the American Civil War and know a little about the orders of battle of each major clash of the war, you can recreate these scenes in the most perfect way, with regiments dressed in the exact clothes and the perfect numbers that were in combat.
For example, for me nothing was more dramatic than repulsing an assault by the 54th Massachusetts on the scenario of Fort Wagner, with the infantry advancing close to the fort until they were driven back by fire by the North and South Carolinian regiments.
So, if you want to experience the drama of these actions, this is the perfect mod for you.
