Imagine a world where the Allies didn't win the war, nor did the Axis. Instead, the war just continued on and on in an unsteady stalemate. Welcome, to the world of 1949. In this world Germany decided not to bomb London, but instead continued its attacks on Britain's airfields. Then, the Russians lost at Kursk. Finally, D-Day fails. With these victories, Germany has managed to halt the Allie's progress. In the Western Theatre, the Allies and the Axis each plan the invasion of the other's vital territories. In the Pacific, Japan and the United States are dueling over tiny islands with giant fleets and atomic weapons. Now, the stalemate is about to be broken. Germany is preparing an all out invasion of Britain. As tough and valiant as the Allied troops defending the Sceptered Isle are, some of their leaders are beginning to that they will be unable to hold against the Wehrmacht.

Looks good, and personally, I dont mind some graphical glitches as long as they arent massive

Just curious since im scared, is your computer dying meaning the end of modding, or is most of the modelling and such done, and working on coding?

Cant wait to see more :D

I can model with a free program like blender or something, but I would need someone else to help me adapt that into the game. Basically, I would need an exporter and perhaps an animator or some such. But yeah, I can still do some modding, which is how I got this to work.

Will the allies also get one of these? I recall reading somewhere that a parallel development of night vision systems occurred in the USA.

I think it was based on this technology though, meaning the allies got their hands on it after the war.

I did some research: page 33 from this magazine from the 1936 shows a night vision telescope. This one obviously can't be mounted on a gun, but it does show the allies had the technology.

Description

The correct answer is, that it is a Zielgerät 1229. The first to guess was, as the timestamps demonstrate, SpardaSon21, though several others also made the correct guess. For those of you wondering why I took these screenshots during the day, it is because the current black texture could make it rather tough to see at night.

The model for this scope set is actually not part of the FG-42. It is instead a model floating above the smg_bone, which means it can be combined with any model that uses that bone. Incidentally, it could have its bone renamed and then added to pretty much any weapon in the game (I think it would have to be "physically" added to HMGs, though I'm not sure). I did this by design to make sure that people would not be restricted in what weapon they add this scope to. Sure it was designed to fit the STG-44, but it would be adapted to fit new weapons and perhaps even older ones (such as the FG-42). Heck, the Americans could theoretically copy its design and slap it onto a Seig Rifle. The only downside to this approach is that it cannot be used as an upgrade.

It has some flaws: this scope is off center by a noticeable margin when you zoom right up to it, its bottom is not long enough to touch the STG-44 and the scope conflicts with a piece of the STG-45, making the two impossible to use together, for now. Why am I telling you this? Because I won't be able to import or export models again. My old Vista machine is finished, and with it went my modeling/animating set up. I don't have the time to redo it on my new Win7 machine, nor the necessary programs. If someone is willing to help me with this, I would be happy to put in some work to fix this model. Several other model files for pieces of 1949 weaponry also exist on my drive, but are in the same state (the Wimmersperg among them, as I recall). Go ahead and contact me if you want to help with this.

For lore info, check the next formal update when it comes someday.
