YES! UDK FTW!!!

I wonder if I could get the current release to work with UDK :).

Also, the wonderful thing about freeware is that its free, but the source code isn't. All the IP in it would also be copyrighted, as the game is just released as free under the GNU, but not as "open-source", meaning that all the source code, models, textures, etc. etc. is open for use by anyone for anything.

PLEASE SAY that you will make this for UDK! I haven't got UT3, but I have seen the vids of this game and the space combat looks AWESOME!!

I think that it would make a great "freeware" game. I would certainly get it, and people without UT3 who are in to space sim games (and this does have some space sim elements) would certainly try this I think.
