Amnesia: Helena

Mod review

I have been waiting for this mod a pretty long time and I have to say it does feel like a major release of Amnesia mods, especially because these days we don't really see much unfortunately. Nontheless this is a more serious mod I always love to see!

The biggest strenght of this mod were the story and the voice acting. Stories which are not told "just" through the game or plain text and require you to connect the dots yourself are always appreciated and are overall more of my liking than trivial ones. Also felt authentic considering which time it plays in!
That's a commendable feat.

Although... So. Much. French. Especially the extra collectibles had a few of them I just skipped, honestly. :D Would be nice to have the subtitles translated at least.

The gameplay was interesting and had just enough twists to it to not be done too quickly for Amnesia veterans. Especially the first half of the game was gripping! The second half, however, really dropped a bit in quality. The ideas surrounding it with a less linear design were refreshing and definitely kept me going, but the execution wasn't flawless and had a ton of bugs and errors.

Throughout the whole experience, not just the second half, the monsters would constantly be stuck through bad pathfinding. This wasn't a one off either - it happened all the time.

Mapping was atmospheric and creative, as well as EXTREMELY detailed. Can't complain about that (except the bugs of course).

To end on a positive note: I liked the verticality and the ending (the good one, the bad one was kind of anti-climactic and random).

Honestly, felt a bit like an 8 to me sometimes, but since you're already fixing stuff and after remembering so much from this custom story (especially the well written story), it would somehow feel wrongful. I'm not disappointed though! Loved every second of it and the bugs were very forgivable considering how good this mod overall is. Creating error-free content isn't everything after all...

Thank you for this excellent mod and for not abandoning it!

Best regards.

Forgot to rate it, cuz I was too lazy to log in.

This absolutely deserves the highest rating for the beautiful maps alone.

Dark Whispers

Mod review

Story isn't even that bad. I think the timing of you uploading this cs was unfortunate. Grammar mistakes and that rushed ending made it look a bit worse than it is though.

The atmosphere was phenomenal and the lighting even more so. I found the lantern to fit more than the flashlight.

The cs is best played in one sitting, as there are some annoying and game-breaking bugs if you save and exit and then reload. Apart from that the cs is short and leaves a better impression that way. The cs being short isn't really a problem - the reason why some didn't like that is, they just won't admit it, they (as well as me) wanted more of this.

So far the atmosphere was my favourite (including the scares, which are creative for a change). Another aspect to add is the beautiful creative chase sequence you've added (first one).

I have played a ton of custom stories and I can tell you that this was one of the scariest I have played so far! Others are more refined and optimized, sure, but while they're fun, I often am leaved unimpressed by the atmosphere and even if that's not the case I'm not truly scared of them.

You really have an exceptional feeling for this genre.

Excellent job. Hopefully we can see more of you.

The Atonement - Amnesia Custom Story

Mod review may contain spoilers

Excellent custom story! The plentyful ecounters become quite repetitive and without interesting twists over some time, but they were more challenging due to rare (unintended?) hiding spots and I have rarely seen so many ecounters, so that makes the gameplay unique.

The maps looked really nice, although they were often too dark to actually enjoy (rooms were often completely black in the middle of them where there are no light sources, which looks weird). If there's some nicely looking rooms you should work on the lighting to actually make the work worth.

After the roof section the end felt quite rushed too.

The voice acting was a mixed bag. Some lines felt a bit too edgy and the old man-suitor was really annoying. No offense but I would've actually preferred this mod without the voice acting. Except the drunk guy that was a fun idea.

Apart from all that the custom story was really nice to play and especially the beginning and mid-game were outstanding.

Amnesia: Secrets

Mod review

Excellent, but flawed. Bugs, bad grammar and a rushed ending (especially an ending full of more bugs...), but overall too good to go below 9, cuz of how refined the gamplay felt (despite the bugs) and how fun it was. Probably one of the most fun mods I have played for Amnesia so far!

TWHL Tower 2

Mod review

Overall really fun to play and the jokes are nice.

Some maps were better than others and sometimes puzzles were a bit obscure.

It definitely deserves the highest score though.

That was a blast. Playing a HL mod after such a long time and being able to enjoy such a nice storyline feels good.
