Yeah, I suppose using PTI has its ups and downs, just like Hammer has its ups, but is - for example not as convienient to use.

Regarding the expansion of PTI - I guess that would be only logical, however, I am not able to take 'hearsays' into account and thus I judge what I've been given and I can see and try out myself.

For this particular mappack, sure, not a bad tool. For me, personally, if I know, I have to fix the tiling systm afterwards and so on, and so on, its much more convinient to basically start from scratch in hammer right away and at least I'll know every single input, output, entity etc.

Hammer has taught me a lto, how game design works, made me familiar with Source engine, made me familiar with mapping. Which is something invaluable, something PTI does not simply offer you. You may be familiar with your PTI map, but most people won't know what entity is, etc. (not claiming that is a bad thing, of course not, just kinda... nostalgic way of saying what hammer taught me and not much relevant here hehe...)

Either way, it's all about personal preferences. While some prefer PTI - some prefer Hammer. And some build their maps in notepad (Yep, that's possible too).
"Whatever floats your boat" they say, don't they?

Well it really differs on what you expect from your map.
I agree, its good for getting the basic layouts done - sort of a brainstorm, ideas realizing editor, kind of. But even then, you will basically have to delete every single wall and redo it , detail it yourself etc. etc.

It also bothers me, that every single thing is an instance, this has, however, bugged me since the release of the tools and thus is not PTI's fault nor problem.

Another thing, that I imagine would have to be redone for most chambers is I/O - complete lack of logic instances and triggers (basically the only trigger avalible in PTI is trigger_hurt and trigger_fizzler which makes it all very limited) etc. etc.

I was a bit too harsh when I said PTI is bad, of course it's not -that- bad and the tool itself along with Steam Workshop is pretty neat, it's just the way it works makes it very unconvinient tool for serious projects of greater size than a mappack.

Basically, PTI can serve you as a helper, but as long as you are serious with your mod, you are going to use Hammer for most of the stuff. I can guarantee that.

Yes, PTI is bad.

PTI is bad, because exported maps to hammer are just awfuly done, screwed up by the tiling system - every 128*128 tile is brush on its own which creates significant performance drops.

Also just to give you an idea of how limited PTI is - there is probably not a single one Portal 1 or Portal 2 map you could fully recreate in PTI, not even after refining in Hammer, because even after that it would require major reworking, adding all 32 units thick walls, doors, editing the lighting (or basically deleting it completely and remaking it as all lights are instances in PTI created maps) and so on and so on...

TL;DR - PTI is bad.

I do agree that the mods may all appear the same and like I said, I'm working with the textures, always open to try new ideas. I already have several texture based of the default ones providing a bit different look, but still trying of new ways to use lights and colors to my favor.
So the rule of a thumb should probably be "As long as you see WIP it may change a lot OR not appear in the game at all" :D
Thanks for understanding.

PS: This comment is also WIP

Yohoat9 - Thank you for your input. First of all - it is WIP. The textures are WIP as well. They might change, and we might decide to keep them.

For quite some time, there were issues with replacing Valve content (i know that didnt apply to textures)

Some of those Portal 2 elements you see were actually inspired by Portal 1 community content (for example omnicoder used forcefields as bridges, you couldnt portal them though) the laser fields were inspired by Portal : The flash version mappack also known as Portal: Still Alive on Xbox 360.

It would be foolish to just ignore everything Portal 2 offers, be it new puzzle elements, better lighting system or pretty much anything else. And don't worry, we have several ideas to make the p2 puzzle elements fit cortal pretty well, we're not going to use them in the same way they were used in Portal 2 (gels ;) ssshhh!)

That's all for now. Just stick for more and I promise that we will do our best to satisfy you.

Hi!

I'm glad that we still have some fanbase.
First of all, I'd like to apologise for the lack of updates. Like you may have read in the last article - I have several technical difficulties. I have very troubling internet connection with certain limits which means that I can't download Portal 2 after my recent computer failure.

Secondly, I would like to say, that we are still working on the mod. I am still making textures, trying new things, experimenting with enviroments and puzzle elements. Thing is, that most of this is done in my head. There is just no way for me to make my ideas move so you could see them in motion. There are also people who are great support for us and help us with developing Cortal to make sure your gameplay experience is going to be as good as possible.

And a little side note, aside from textures and all the enviroment stuff I do, the story keeps developing as well and I and Kek threw together some excellent ideas.

So, as you can clearly see, a lot of things are moving and changing, but none of this can be shown to you, because, quite frankly, there's not much to show apart from static texture pictures or my notes, which have little to no information value at all. As soon as I get access to Hammer again (which should be soon) you will be able to take a look into Gamma Technologies research facility.

Thank you for staying with us,
Cortal Development team

Well one thing is "rip-off" or heavy inspiration, the other thing is just shameless stealing content and ideas.
If you put a lot of effort to something just to see people stealing it, it won't make you happy. I, for example spent a lot of time thinking and making the Cortal stuff and I believe it's understandable when I see some idiot like jacek just ripping us off I'm mad. Especially when this guy is acting immature and he's trying to spam both my messagebox and this mod's profile. I have to admit, I strongly dislike jacek, and I don't care if some people like him or not. For me, he will remain the guy who was not only stealing content from Cortal. And that's just big no for me.

Is it going to be just in campgain, or something?

It's nice, but doesn't look very "homy"... Looks like house that's ready to be sold.

I'd add some details, like dishes on the table, magazines, books, maybe some rug on those carpets, the dining bar is way too empty :)

Just look around your house to see all the stuff you have on tables. ;)

Hello, as nice ideas as they are, they don't really fit the concept that is built around CMYK and RGB color models. For more information refer to this ;)

I don't see why people dislike Desura so much. It makes players life better because you have most recent files all the time, it makes modders life better, because they can deliver you most recent files all the time and yet there are still dozens of people to complain.

I installed Desura, downloaded BP and it worked.
