Yeah, sure, and you did your job real well, as everyone of ModDB. (no sarcasm here) Just look at this year's sponsors. So as I said, I don't want to downplay the success of this.

Yet you have to distinguish between constructive and destructive criticism. While destructive criticism is, as always, entirely unwanted (I'll second you there), constructive criticism can serve to bring about improvement. And I do not seem to get why caring about my hobby and wanting to help you the only way I can would make me have to abandon modding. Feedback, even criticism, is a sign of interest, but you seem to be taking it all too personal.

But perhaps it was just a misunderstanding. I am not "upset", as you put it, and I certainly didn't want to appear like if I was. I am simply interested. And lastly: I can only imagine what stress the MOTY team has to be dealing with, but in any case, keep up the good work! You are doing one hell of a job!

Don't wanna play down the huge amount of work that certainly had to be done to organize this, but still: Where did the award for best story go? At the moment this immensly important part of a larger mod is not rewarded. Yet a lot of good mods build upon an atmospheric and deep story to make the mod fun to play.

Everyone involved in this year's MOTY: Don't get upset because of negative criticism. While it seems unjustified, let everyone have his own opinion. ;)

Sniffman - - 7 comments @ Do you listen to music while modding?

Its actually a mix of all three for me. But fast music will generally work better unless I'm overworked, since I'm a bit hyperactive anyway. Slow music is better when having to concentrate and for writing tasks I usually have music off entirely. But I never ever listen to heavy metal while modding. That's too disturbing for me to think properly.

We honestly don't know right now, because there are so many frequent and radical changes in our number of active members that we can impossibly predict when we'll be finished. This is why the release estimate is still at "To Be Announced".

Honestly, that's absolutely not my decision. The admin of whatever servers will host the mod will have to deal with that question each for himself.

Looks like someone was inspired by Freelancer, if you know what I mean. ;)

Sniffman - - 7 comments @ Should modders use others' IP without permission?

What I'm missing here is an answer like a mixture of the first ones. I think, if the permission is granted by the IP holders, than modding teams should go ahead (but only if they have asked and were told it's okay). But I also think that modding is about being creative and creating your very own stuff. I like to think of modders (at least the Total Conversion makers) as game developers witout a budget. Copying other's ideas is not on a modder's intellecual level, I think. Though I'm surely not talking of the majority here.

As for the Valve thing. If someone made a Half-Life RTS (can such a thing exist? ;) ). I think Valve would contract the makers (provided the mod is really good) and sell it via Steam. But again, we're talking more about a game than a mod here.
