Always on the lookout
This is a review of the 2011 beta release.
I have always been a fan of not only the cyberpunk aesthetic, but also the implications of such worlds. While many other games/mods revel in their world of 'cool grungy' technology, G-String provides a sense of atmosphere and immersion that really blew me away.
Since I first played this in early 2012 it has remained my first thought when I envision a dystopia and the dread of unchecked consumerism and materialism.
While the level designs can sometimes feel like a real place, they also don't exactly feel easy to find a path through. I feel mixed on this, as it helps with the feeling of being in the middle of this dystopia, yet also can lead to confusion.
I rate this a 9. Though it has faults, I have never felt so impacted by a mod. I eagerly await a full release from this author, whether as a mod or as a standalone game.
Wonderfully atmospheric and detailed. I played this almost a decade ago, but I still have fond memories of it. Does it hold up? Not quite, but that doesn't deny that it is well made and wonderfully thought out.
