after i run executable I keep getting a message that says: "This application is not compatible with the installed operating system. Please upgrade to Windows 98SE,Windows 2000 or better. can you guys help ?

anytime i try to play third age total war with 3.1 in a battle in the campaign or custom battle it keeps bringing up the encountered unspecified error and will not exit message, if anyone knows how to fix this please comment
