Just tried this again with the same results: Demon girl has disappeared but no key and door is still locked

ok, so now I've killed the monster and the demon girl has disappeared but still no key and the door is still locked

I have deleted the custom story from my computer and re-downloaded it from here and replayed the whole sequence again. I get the same results. The demon girl is standing by the exit door but no key is visible and the door is locked. Its too bad. This has been a great mod and I'm sorry that I can't see it to its end.

I have defeated the monster by lowering the bridge he was on but the demon does not give me a key

That didn't work so I re-started the game and then the axe worked...go figure. Now I've made it chapter 4 and have obtained the piano key which should work on the locked room upstairs that leads to the piano. IT DOES NOT WORK. Yes I have the right key and the right room. I checked with a video of it. I give up! I'll try a different game.

The Axe I found does not work on the Barricaded door. When I try to use it I get "Cannot use this item this way"

OK, I had to restart the game and then the rope worked on the broken window. To get the portrait key to work on the portrait I to leave the room and then go back in.
