Report RSS Those Early Bird Games Using UE4

Unreal Engine Foarrrrrrrr! Rawr! :D Not a good start to this blog. Anyways, I've been modding for Unreal Enigne 1 for... almost 2 decades now, well not really. I've made stuff for Unreal Engine 3 and had results and my work on Unreal Engine 1 is getting me somewhere but going un-noitced (maybe a good thing), I've never modded for a game for Unreal Engine 2. Not sure why I feel sore playing them. Feels like the end of the world actually. Anyways, I'll sort that out some other time.

Anyways, while Unreal Engine 2 and 3 are behind everyone, There's the Unreal Engine 4. Unlike the Unreal Engine 1, 2 and 3, the main company who makes the engine Epic Games hasn't made a game using their own engine while all the other companies are diving in using their engine to make their games. So this interested me alot. Epic Games made Unreal and Unreal Tournament with their Unreal Engine and really following up on Unreal Engine 2 and 3. So it does bother me a bit and it almost screamed out "why don't you lead by example!?". It bothers me alot because from what I've read about playing games, is that the good games come towards the later generation of any software engine but the early games have such nostalgia despite being dated after a while when an engine reaches a certain age but lose their idea of what a playable game is. Now for me, it's company makes game engine but makes that dream game to re-coupe costs, so it bothers me a lot but maybe I'm getting this wrong.

The engine or even the logo has always been a trademark of quality. You see the Unreal Engine, you know something is good but growing up with games with the Unreal 1 to 3, they are often bold and it would make me to explore the game and I know the game would make me go wow.

Here's the list put up on Wikipedia aka place all developers head on to help promote their game: En.wikipedia.org

It almost feels like their a cut off point between Unreal Engine 3 and 4. Not that I want to say it's not a trope. The game name aren't as bold and Epic hasn't released a game, so what is going on.

But then when you look at many of the games with the hardware and their video and screenshots, even boxart in some cases, then it does explain what's going on and how far gaming as went and it does answer to me what those developer do to make their games worth while and maybe that is a good thing. From Unreal Engine 3, when Epic made Unreal Tournament 3, all the games soon after felt so much like Unreal Tournament. Almost every game does this. You'll be walking around and it may be Thief or Dishonored but then something says that it's Unreal Tournament 3, when it is not. Everything from the beef graphics tot he anti aliasing effects to the multi-textures even to the motion blur the game engine renders, are usually found in the other games, so I keep telling myself Unreal Tournament 3. It's not good.

Rune, the Unreal Engine 1 game was noticed that the castles and huts look like the Nali castles in Unreal. One reviewer complained about that also.

So I see these games for the Unreal Engine 4, almost like Epic Games are sitting out like they're waiting to make their Unreal Tournament reboot and start raking in everyone, but I think their engine to developers with their reputation has helped early developed games to establish themselves better then just Unreal engine game to representation on their IP or game.

One game which I think does well is The Solus Project. Wouldn't have thought it was an Unreal Engine game maybe because Unreal Tournament isn't out yet.

A nice exploration game, a bit like No Man's Sky but done on their own, so it is a refreshing change seeing a game without know what kind of standard Unreal games would have. I would think clearly how far graphics and rendering has gone, it is the reason some developers are really going for making a game and it is a good thing to take advantage of Unreal Engine 4 being offered as an early bird and not wait until Epic Games release their game, so I am moved about the entire thing.
