Destiny Rebellion (Amnesia)

Mod review may contain spoilers

Oh wow, there are so many custom stories with no effort put into them it's refreshing to get a story with some creativity and entertainment!

I really like the scope of the game. There are so many worlds, maps, and places to go. Along with that, there is so much more entities and textures that are used. It's almost as if it's an entirely new game. I mean you play as a monster at some points. Talk about creativity!

Pros:
-Length of playtime
-Combination of genres
-In a way it has a philosophical nature
-Maps. All of them. I like all the maps.
-Custom monsters are nice
-Story has some effort put into it
-Ice cavern. Enough said.
-Pacing was good

Cons:
-Quite a few bugs (the swamp I found to be the most buggy - I was able to get through the barred gate leading to the eagle key just by climbing the colorful rocks)
-Some areas with the jump-kick feature (click an area and it makes you jump twice as high) got me stuck. I believe the feature wasn't intentionally added to them

Other than that, that's pretty much all I have to say about this custom story. Clearly a lot of work was put into it and I'm glad I played it.

Key to Freedom

Long story short, this custom story is perfect in almost every light. The ideas are fresh, new and really creative. The lions gave me a good scare, and the graveyard was one of my favourite places. So much effort was put into the tiny little details that a lot of players are probably going to bypass. The story is great, the characters quirky, and the ending isn't rushed. it truly feels like I was playing an actual game. Novel time:

To start, Chris manipulated the water monster (or in the story, the "unseen being") enough to cause you spooks. It followed its prey, just like a feral beast. Next, there's the dungeon layout. To me, it sort of seemed like the way that The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time was going to be laid out - in a single castle with various places to transport to. Navigation was simple given the clever candle illumination, and the castle actually felt like a castle.
This story seemed almost cinematic to me. Everything connects so perfectly and, given the horror atmosphere, there are many areas in the castle that you can not explore (lots of locked doors, etc). Halfway through, there's the sadly short-lived safe haven, where you walk through a gorgeous dining atrium in mid summer... before everything switches back to reality. That, along with the stairway-chase-cremated-ashes scenario were probably my favourite parts. In fact, I don't even think I have any favourite parts. The entire thing is just the cherry on top.

To put it simply, I don't think any custom story could top this. This is the Godfather of all custom stories, in my opinion. Anything to top it would have to be pretty damn amazing. Awesome job, Chris!
