Half-Screwed

Mod review

I have to say, out of all the "silly" mods that would often replace much of the game's content to the point it becomes nigh-incomprehensible, this one's got to be my favorite because it offers a way different experience than mods like Crack-Life, Scientist Slaughterhouse WTF Messup and G-Man Invasion.

For starters, the NPCs don't make weird noises and random gibberish that you'd expect from mods like this. Instead, they're voiced by the mod's author and make hillarious remarks, often insult you and ocassionally make references to other media aswell.

The mod also has an amusing variety of weapons that are mostly lifted from other games, ranging from Resident Evil 4's handgun, GoldenEye's golden gun, the NES zapper, the Jackal from Hellsing, a super-automatic SPAS-12, a rocket launcher that launches scientists, a cardboard box tripmine, the "MW2" gun, etc.

There's lots of fun video game and cultural references in this mod, such as Super Mario, Metal Gear Solid, Fist of the North Star, The Room, Heavy Rain and much, much more.

I did encounter some bugs and problems that prevented me from rating this mod a ten outta ten, though. I previously mentioned in the comments that when you equip the scientist launcher or the dolphin gun (Crossbow replacement) and then switch to another weapon, you can't equip back to the dolphin gun/scientist launcher.

Another is that some of the NPC voice lines are left unaltered, so sometimes amidst the goofy voice lines you'll hear regular scientist and guard banter, which can be really jarring.

That said, I really do wish a fix is made to fix any lingering issues, like the one I mentioned earlier, or a sequel is made for Half-Life 2, because this mod has lots of potential. And that's probably never likely to happen any time soon.

Dawn of the Tiberium Age

Mod review

Dawn Of The Tiberium Age is a mod for Tiberian Sun which mishmashs Red Alert and Command and Conquer together in such a cool way.

DTA tries to be faithful to the OG C&C games as possible. The Tiberian Sun engine, the new features, and the others are what made this mod so awesome.

In DTA, there are 2 modes, the classic mode and the enhanced mode.

Classic tries to be close to the original C&C gameplay and balance as possible, while Enhanced adds new units, naval combat, competitive balance changes, etc.

In skirmish and multiplayer, there are many cool gameplay options that you or the admin can choose from, such as visceroids, thunderstorms, fast vehicles and others.

DTA also has many singleplayer/coop missions, some can be hard and fustrating, but others can be fun.

Overall, I found it a very fun mod to play, it's basically C&C and RA with improved gameplay, and it shows us how C&C and RA aged very well, and many other great things about them.

Brutal Doom

Mod review

Ah, Brutal Doom. I first saw a gameplay of it on Youtube, I thought "Hey, this looks fun to play. If I could play it then I would play it."

After getting myself Doom and some instructions on how to set up, I was in for one hell of an experience... well, for a while.

I since got bored of playing v20b due to no interesting stuff going on and less cool things for me to customize with in the settings. When I saw V21 was out, my experience just turned out a lot more fun than that.

Of course, despite what people might say about this mod and having played other mods more fun than this, I still find Brutal Doom fun to play.

Half-Life: Before

Mod review

Very decent mod, but too short.
