I must say that this mod is very entertaining and balanced, with interesting design choices and without too much unneeded content. Of course there a some little flaws here and there (like Renegade's militia's KW cameo not fitting its model (the model is like in C&C 3)), but they are not disturbing.
When i saw this mod back in 2011, my thoughts were like "Hey! Another story about evil russians and western people saving the day? Well, maybe that thing will be slightly different."
It was. And later i realised how much it was different.
1st thing, ofcourse, is gameplay. Two absolutely new factions (in 2011 2nd only was planned), with their own unique themes. Review of the original factions (Just look at the GLA!). A lot of different technical decisions with unit abilities etc. And balance (and constant adjustments for it). Also multiplayer net-unit.
2nd: appearance. Despite the era of high-graphic mods, models in ROTR aren't as shiny as in most of such mods. And it is good for me. Why? Because they are still have much better quality than of the original game, but at the same time they stick to the original style of Generals. Eye-candy and Oldschool in one piece. New effects, particles. And F*@!#%G OUTSTANDING voiceovers!
3rd: amazing lore. Seriously, if you who is reading this review don't know it, go to the forum and read. Very deep work with much dedication (thanks to MARS!). To tell the truth, I can't remember any other story where Russia is not "black" but "grey", and others aren't "white" but "grey" too. Even GLA is "grey". (50 Shades of grey lol )
To sum things up, this mod not only makes Generals fresh again (because all mods try to do it), but, which is more important to me, it does it without any divergence from Generals' original gameplay. I wish developers further success with their projects and more ideas to implement!
P.S. Why not 10/10? Well, to be honest, i have a very bad reaction at jokes about russians and vodka (cough kodiak cough conscript cough). And I want my frogfoot back (yes i do know it was cut due to balance and copyright but,still, i want XD ) And sorry fo possibler misspellings (english isn't my native you know).
