I think it was mostly due to lore reasons that the alien doesn't use vents much. Axel introduces the player to the vents as means to survive and it seems they tried to stick with that. In the DLCs and on Nightmare difficulty it is more free to use the vents, though once on Normal in the mission where you need to replace a cylinder for the elevator I went underneath the group of survivors through that big crawlspace with a flare and when I was almost at the exit I heard steps behind me that were not my own...
Every time I got a little too cocky - like running around waiting for the train after Axel's death - the game had a surprise for me, telling me that it *could* make me reload the last save, but it doesn't have to as long as I behave and hide behind a crate.

This sequence is not what I played and only has 13 keys instead of 14. I'm almost certain I played the left 5 keys from right to left last.
Then I got scared and jumped onto the piano. That's when the guardian got stuck and the game crashed, lol.

I think the game is crashing when the player (me in the bookshelf) or an enemy (knight in the piano) is stuck for a few seconds. Probably a bug with the AI on Valve's end...
- About the piano scene: How about making it dead silent in the room? It annoyed me a bit that the gramophone I tried to listen to almost drowned in the background noises.
- The new glow and hand animation code is much better. Previously I had trouble picking some items up. Now their sensitive area is much smaller which seems to help with picking stuff up and has you point directly at the item to see the glow. That's much better I think than practically having everything in your sight glow at close range. I actually need the light now to check dark tables for ammo. That's good.

He replaced the original downloads. Just download the patch again.
Awesome, so I finally got into the library and have all these new toys in my inventory as well as the rusty key. Maybe some day I'll find a rusty lock for it. Good thing I kept that sniper rifle from the tunnels as it can kill the nasty two headed creatures with one shot.
By the way, that library door is still glitched when you try to exit the library: You get teleported right into the open bookshelf.
There is a similar issue with one of the entrances to the second floor of the dining room: The teleport goes into a wooden chair lying on the ground. Its just not a severe bug, since you can just pick it to get "unstuck".
Last not least items in the inventory seem to overlap a lot. The fourth key can only be selected with a few pixels between the 3rd key and the "Use" button. Maybe it is because I play @ 1024x768 and some parts of the UI aren't scaled down?

The right wing key doesn't seem to work no matter how close I am to the door knob. So I'll wait for the bug fix and see if I can then find the record (and I fear an armored statue coming to life that I cannot kill) or the missing piece of pipe (though I think that's the last step before leavin the area).

Oh, so this isn't just a wrong description on the door and the key I have should work? Damn it.

I tried to play it, but:
- quick save = crash
- loading after dying = crash
- 0.5 FPS in most areas for no obvious reason
- you cannot make single zombies a harder target by giving them 4 times the health, it just takes longer to finish them; fast zombies is the way to go
- in the first map i cannot go through the white light at the end of the tunnel. It is made of some glass but wont break.
- it is very hard to jump around the corner in the back end of the tentacle room

OTHERWISE the gameplay was fun. I'd play it again when it leaves beta status.

You perfectly resembled Valve's original prison maps and realized a lot of own gameplay ideas. For me it was just irritating that in some places the combine respawn infinitly (à la Medal Of Honor) and you have to rush - sometimes with little health. On the other hand: By default the game is set to easy not medium, right?
