Discovery Freelancer

Mod review

This mod is a huge disappointment that takes away traffic from other mods that had MUCH MUCH more effort put into them. This mod has had NOTHING new added to it for AGES. The "development team" (a bunch of random players given the job) sits around and boondoggles for weeks, and months to deliver a tiny update that barely contains anything. These "new features" aren't hard programmed into the game, rather compliant on the garbage FLHook plugin for servers. The name doesn't make any sense. There's new systems, but they all blend together. What is there to discover? Everything is pretty much known. Other mods have HUNDREDS of new systems to explore, each contrast and have their own feel. Discovery looks like copy paste for every single system.

The original description said something about "aiming to expand upon the universe --without changing gameplay--". This description has been completely retconned, as some mechanics have been completely wiped or changed entirely. Progression is completely gone, as you simply have to just grind money to get a specific ship type, and the one server (that has a constant player base) is aimed at "roleplaying". While RP can be fun if done correctly, the community seems to be " super serious" but "not serious". Standards for everything is EXTREMELY high, but the reward is nothing, and people get away with lots of things. The entire system is basically "nobody loses". No faction can complete their goal, it's just an utter waste of your time. The best "RP" that happens is interpersonal stories or events that seem important, but won't matter.
-For example, there was an event where the Gallic Royal Navy (French people) clearly ANNIHILATED Liberty, which should mean they gain control, but the "developers and admins" say "nah, keep it neutral. Liberty won, but hey San Diego was destroyed. Good enough".

The main community is murdering itself. People are leaving it, people keep complaining about crap, appeals for SIMPLE rule breaks take a MONTH to process, it's infested by trolls/people who are just there for PvP (Hamburg City people as I call them). This mod is the cockroach of Freelancer. It just won't die.

There are lots of good mods out there with much more potential. Crossfire, Freeworlds, Nightstalker's Universe: these mods change the game immensely, but on purpose. This mod completely lies and doesn't follow its original description at all. I hope this mod dies so that WORTHY, QUALITY mods gain the traffic they deserve.
