There was a mod ~10 years ago by exactly the same name, Knights of the Force, that was infamous for being a scam, containing malware, stealing donations, etc. It got bad enough that ModDB outright banned them: Moddb.com
The fact that this project is using the same name as such an infamous mod is making some people who know about that old mod a bit cautious.

The only mods that won't work are those that rely on .dlls stored in a bin/ folder (which this one does not).
I would have installed the game, if it had not been dependent on Mono. :-(
