Troy: Total War

Mod review

In a few words what I have to say is, this mod is FANTASTIC.

Troy: Total War was one of the first major mods to be developed for the Rome: Total War. It is based on 'Troy' film by Wolfgang Petersen, although it is largely just the units, envirements and characters. The beginning of its development began in 2005, a year after the movie Troy and RTW were released.

The campaign is fun - you can march with your armies to conquer Greece and Troy - plus the soundtrack is the same as the movie, which makes it immersive for the period. The battles are fast and the units strong - the use of graphical features to renders the units textures into HD is maintained.
However, the mod lacks upgrades that make the lives of heroes longer, such as 4TPY (4 Turns Per Year) that slows down aging, or even the immortality of some heroes through Alexander [expansion] features. Without them, aged characters like Priam or Peleus die in a few turns.

TTW has a successor that is strictly based on Iliad, called Aristeia: Total War, which contains all the necessary improvements and additions to TTW, such as hero vitality and 6TPY.

Aristeia

Mod review

The better mod and RTS game about Troy, before CA released its new game in 2020.
Its characteristic aesthetic of Bronze Age period is demonstrated by the "yellowing" of the environment, both in battles and in the campaign. The combat system between Heroes in some cases can be good and in others not; in my case I never had CTD problems with them, playing Aristeia. Battles are tough and a good hero can change course. His 2D Art for the units, buildings, interface and portraits suits the mod style and complements them. Its balance in campaigns, main and provincial give it new areas, while one is specific to each faction or house, the other is between two large factions, Greeks and Trojans, fighting each other.
Overall, Ariseia: Total War is one of the best mods about the Trojan War.

Scandza: Total War

Mod review

Scandza takes Rome: Total War - Barbarian Invasion engine to another level, exploring the unexplored north in the base game.
The modification can be considered as one of the best historical mods in a completely unique scenario. With new features in addition to implement mechanics such as Migration and Sedentarism, which lead to unrest in villages, interfering directly in the game, making in certain cases you change your strategy and choose one that suits your situation. The 2D Art for the units, buildings, interface and portraits gives a new perspective until then, both made by Joar. Completely immersive soundtrack by the Krauka group, it stabilizes, porting you to a new game.
Overall, Scandza: Total War is one of the best mods in the historical genre, and certainly one of the most immersive.

The Fourth Age: Total War

Mod review

Turned the original Rome TW into a game about Tolkien Universe. The map has been completely redesigned and created to fit Middle Earth 400 years after the War of the Ring. Largely inspired by Tolkien's latest drafts of the "New Shadow", it was re-imagined what it would be like if the author had completed it, where he merges with characters present in the tale, such as Eremur, one of the remnants of malignant might of Sauron's, once to continue his legacy. The trait tree was completely remade as well as its units, strong in their skills, but easily can suffer serious losses. The only weak point is perhaps the system of assimilation and public order, to maintain the newly conquered settlements, which makes it very difficult for factions with a beginning in deficit, added to the high cost of the units, both in recruitment and maintenance. Overall it's one of the biggest Tolkien mods ever made; your promises with the new project taking place in the Third Age, about the Wainriders Invasios period makes new hopes for the continuation of the projects of the FATW team!
