The Curse of Ripley Manor

Mod review

Extremely well done mod, with intense atmosphere and amazing scares. At the very first start, I figure it would be a typical average mod, but I was dead wrong. This mod simply progressed its horror so nicely. I've been playing so many mods, and the mapping here takes the lead in any I've ever seen. The elements borrowed from the original Amnesia, and Amnesia A Machine for Pigs just takes me back to the days I first play those games, where I was just so terrified of doing anything. This mod seems to refine both together, creating a monstrous and unforgettable journey. I would like to take a second to also comment on just how amazing the sound effects are. Stunning. I'm so glad to see there are still stunning creators out there for this game.

Silent Hill: Alchemilla

Mod review

Alchemilla.

I would first like to immediately start off by saying this is Team Silent quality, and that's saying a lot.

The first three Silent Hill games, at least to me, are considered the high peaks of horror/gameplay and legendary. After the fourth, Silent Hill series became lesser, but I always replayed 1-3 to remind myself that Team Silent created legendary titles. With that said, I would like to thank everyone who made this mod for having created such authentic horror based off these games. Although I understand these are not meant to be replicated or such thing in any manner, you've done a good hell of a job making original Silent Hill fans proud.

I feel like I'm playing a mix between these three games, because of how authentic it sounds, looks, and plays. It makes me content that people still understand what made the first three games so special, particularly Silent Hill 2, which was the mighty peak. These environments in this mod make you feel alone, miserable, uncomfortable, and most importantly, psychological. In Silent Hill 2, we had Suuuuunderland feel like he was battling the >town< all by himself. This created one of the strongest atmospheric game ever created, and still is for me today. Although this mod lacks plenty of monsters and danger, it is still freshly authentic to the games, and remarkable.

The story itself is not mindblowing, but it seems to fit just well in, is what I can say without spoiling it. The reason why I can't say anything negative about it is because it's also just as authentic, and ties in very well with what the town of Silent Hill is capable of, but I don't wish to spoil it. The puzzles themselves, although sometimes try too hard to be >hard< and sometimes not, they seem to be quite decently made as well. Some of them even felt Silent Hill quality. The transitions of the Otherworld/Fog are nicely done as well, another high key AND important factor.

If you are a fan of the original Team Silent Hill games, I seriously recommend playing this mod. The only thing preventing me from perfecting such a score is the lack of monsters and danger, the radio missing ( :D ), and maps/inventory. I hope to see more of you guys, as you created something truly authentic.

VANISH

Game review

Let me just first say that I find this game to be quite terrifying, both mentally and... uh... physically. (Jumpings and all).

I think what works well for me in this game is the particular intense atmosphere you are placed in. I cannot express how many times those breaking pipes, light breaking, or even the sound effects in the background, have severely terrified me. It's the fact that you start loosing your sanity. This game LITERALLY drains your sanity, and what's worst, you have a creature of some sort that probably isn't from this dimension, chasing your ***. As soon as you first see this monster, or he starts chasing you, your sanity goes down hard. You just don't know if he'll be in front of you, behind you, or even on both your left and right when crossing those cross-ways. This game is all about messing with your sanity, and it does it well. That is true horror.

The Silver Key [Collapsing Cosmos]

Mod review

A fantastic and enjoyable mod story. I can easily tell you took your time and put a lot of effort into this. The mapping is one of the bests I've seen in quite some time, and the story is intriguing as well. Thank you for spending time on this.

Amnesia: The Dark Descent

Game review

A legendary and masterpiece horror game that drove me to the ends of oblivion endlessly. The amount of tension created to us players was highly provided, and in situations as to what we'd do, such as running out of oil, loosing your sanity, making a noise by accident, all was completely hell but very well made. The atmosphere is amazing, and gives the chilly bones through players. If I could say anything negative about this game, I'd probably just brag about how I would have love to see more monsters, but given how the game is at its state, it is just perfectly fine.

Thanks to a strong community, I still keep this game alive due to amazing custom stories that are endlessly being created. There are truly a huge amount of talented creators out there, and because of them this game remains well lively.

This game haunted my nightmares, and drove me insane until I literally cried and weeped. Thank you for the horror experience.

Amnesia: A Machine For Pigs

Game review

I enjoyed this game quite a lot. I personally think that handing this to thechineseroom was not too much of the greatest idea, rather, Frictional Games should have done all the work, ALL, and they should have said NO DON'T DO THAT! AND THAT! BAD BAD! Removing elements (Yes I'M GONNA BRAG ABOUT IT BALHBVALH, I'LL TELL YOU WHY:) such as the sanity was something TDD was special for, because it created tension, and so did running out of oil, and what the hell am I gonna do with my life after it depletes, or what if I pass out next to that monster and he sees me and comes towards me then I just shut the computer off instantly, go to my bed and weep and cry ALONE AND FEEL MISERA-....*AHEM*.... that kind of tension is truly important, at least to me, and what created The Dark Descent a true horror game, because you wouldn't know what to do in that situation, you'd just panic and feel uneasy.

Thou the staggering amount of effort given in this game, and the interesting story kept me going and going. As suppose to the first one, the sound effects are very well done and much more vibrant, and I could say a little about how the game looks, as I felt it was a slight improvement, but that's it. I felt like I was still apart of the game, and not what some people say "a walking narrator". I am easily scared, VERY easily, so the monsters did their job just fine, and so did the lights flickering as the monsters got near and I panicked and cried and screamed for my life. So in a way the fear also kept me going as well and it scared me just fine. The atmosphere was just brilliant, and BRILLIANTLY brilliant!

In the end, I enjoyed it, and had fun, and cried in fear. Thou comparing this to our predecessor, The Dark Descent, it falls and doesn't deliver the same fear and tension, and could have been MUCH much better.

The Four Horsemen

Mod review

I enjoyed playing this mod (I streamed as well) all the way to the end.

The astounding amount of detail is just amazing. Not a single room felt empty, and was full of proper detail.

There truly isn't much I could say about what went wrong, maybe despite a few monsters and not too much scares, these own opinion flaws are overshadowed by the concept idea and game-play. Very nice job on this.

10/10.

Extremely scary & very well made. As one of the reviewers stated, it's a rare gem to see a mod like this. Great job!

Black Mesa

Mod review

What I love about this mod is that they didn't leave the good parts out, or the interactive parts, like when you blow up the food in the microwave, or the alarm, ect. Overall the design of these levels compared to the original Half-Life is amazing, and it never leaves the feeling that the original game gave. You will always recognize what room you're in. I really wanted to see how the test chamber would go, and it was really good, like it felt much more intense and catastrophic. This is a worthy remake worth playing, and this is coming from someone who played Half-Life on its day of release, so the nostalgic feeling was grand. Great job! I also forgot to mention the music fits the game good as well.
