You can also download the latest version of the mod from the Citadel, which works with the current CK2 version. I'd recommend that situation, actually.

You have to purchase the Dynamic Version DLC, it's $25.
Nah, just kidding. ;) Right-click the game in your Steam list, select "Properties," then under the "BETAS" tab you can choose an older version under the drop-down "Select the beta..." :)
I can confirm this. The game just shut down during the loading process when the mod was enabled, but now that I went back to 2.8.1 it loads just fine. :)
