The Nameless Mod

Mod review

Among the best mods I have ever played. It's on par with Deus Ex, if not better. It's not without it's problems, for example I found the weird inside jokes at the beginning portions of the story just out of place, and it initially made me think that the devs weren't really serious about the whole thing. But I'm glad I kept going and played it from start to finish, as it actually turned out to be one of the best mods I have ever laid my hands on. Superb atmosphere, very "Deus-Ex-y" feel about it. It's been a few years since I last played it, but just listening to the soundtrack on youtube gives me the nostalgic chills that very few games have been able to deliver in my lifetime. Along with Zodiac, a must play for all true DX fanatics!

Deus Ex: Revision

Mod review

After playing through the mod I find it hard to believe that there are some people on this site stating things like "Revision to DX is like Black Mesa is to HL". That's just laughable. Black Mesa was a HUGE accomplishment, where they essentially rebuilt every single level and transferred the whole game on to a modern game engine. How out in touch with reality are you really?

Let's face it. Revision, while not bad as a facelift for an old game by a small team, is still just that: a facelift. Yes, some levels have been significantly changed, but it's still the old (******) Unreal 1 engine with all of its flaws and shortcomings. Some parts of the game really stood out for themselves (especially Paris), but at the same time I couldn't help wondering: "is this all there is to it? Is this really all they managed in seven years?" For a major part of my playthrough, I felt like I was playing the same old DX I've played so many times before, with no tile out of place. Especially the first half. Sorry to be blunt, but I was really expecting something more.

I'd rate it 7 at most, and that would be pushing it. But because of the fact that I actually had to spend money on another copy of DX to play this (not to mention the overall fiasco that the release was), I'm only rating it 6.
