Edain Mod

Mod review

"You could think im exxagerating the value of this mod,but i can only tell you : try with your hands." -TheMost

I completely agree with these words, and you will know why.

Pros:
Great looking units(mostly)
BFME1 building mechanics(usually)
Great new abilities and heroes
Fun to use Ring Heroes(if they work correctly)

Cons:
The ******* units, I mean only the Angmar, Imladris and Iron Hills units seem as if they had more than 3 days effort. Also, random Dwarf units just have weird ******* flat faces, like they dont even have noses. EVen the Vanilla did that better.

The AI is too overpowered. It just doesn't make sense. For instance, a unit with 492 HP fought a unit with 410 HP (both were at full HP) and ******* lost. It's basic numbers and stats, this shouldn't happen. Also, they summon random heroes from other factions. I know I use the Dwarves faction too often in this review, but here is a prime example. The Erebor subfaction of dwarves can summon various Ered Luin heroes and even some Iron Hills ones. Also, the gondor AIs can train these Dol Amroth Spearmen, which the player can't.

Several Maps are just unplayable as some factions. Look at Dol Guldur. It gives you builders from vanilla ROTWK and crashes your game when you click on them.

The 4.4 Update isnt even available for download off of MODDB. It just updates from the launcher.

There is no Wizard create a hero. WTF. That was literally the most popular, why the **** arent there any.

Ring heroes are underpowered for random factions. Look at Angmar. Their hero just slightly buffs speed of enemy units and unit production. This is ******* useless compared to Gondor's, which gives you extremely elite units anf upgrades all units for free, plus makes the ring hero extremely tough for combat.

Also, Gollum regenerates in the map, so there will be multiple ring heroes. Pretty fun, isnt it.

The AI are extremely powerful for some factions. I placed a single Isengard faction on a 6 player FFA map, with all computers set to Medium. The isengard wiped out 3 factions and was assaulting me within about 25 mins.

Oh yeah, did I mention the random crashes?

It doesnt matter how many units you have, what AIs are playing, or what mode you are playing. You will never play this mod for more than an hour at a time, because it will crash from a random game.dat error or just ****** close.

Roughly 30% of this game is in German or has gibberish lines. The ******* Angmar create a hero units whisper a ******* paragraph you cant even hear most of when clicked on. Many are poorly cut movie lines, like all of Boromir's lines are from one scene in the movie. The Ranger CAH was a nice idea but everything is in bloody German.

One thing to add to this long list is the infantry for the various factions. It should be plain that factions with underpowered infantry should maybe get higher-tier infantry or better units later on. The Dwarven and Rohrrim units have the worst infantry in the game, as they dont get improvements or elite units of more than one type.

This mod doesnt uninstall correctly, and I dont understand why there is even an uninstall option. It takes a game reinstall to get it to play other mods.

All I can say is that I feel humiliated that I uninstalled Age of The Ring for this.

Return of Shadow

Mod review

This mod may be big but quality overrules quantity. I had a game on the entire day while I was at my classes and not one AI killed another. Seriously the AI are 100% useless, and you have to meddle with the compatibility settings and change it to Windows XP to make the AIs even produce units. This mod introduces new upgrades such as ones that upgrade unit armor to certain attacks and some that expand your CP limit.
None of these work unless you build another castle or camp. This mod's gameplay is extremely slow, because the walls have so much life and siege weapons can only be trained from outposts. I legit dislike what this mod did, and to top it all off, the Riddermark edition did nothing but add bugs.
However, if it improves, I will get the next version.

Middle-earth Extended Edition

Mod review

GREAT MOD!
The units are far more HD, the units are all balanced, and that is even with the other factions being so different.

All the factions are better. This mod is so much better than the Shadow and Flame mod by far.

All the skeletons used for the units are well done. The Gondor Pikemen have great abilities, and in fact use the tower guard skeleton, not the stupid Easterling one.

The mod is slightly glitchy, with the Harad faction having an invisible and unclickable keep for the fist 2 mins of the game.
The new factions font have AIs yet.

Still, I recommend it completely.

Age of the Ring

Mod review

This mod is pretty good. There are nice HD models, great formations for units, but there are a fair share of bugs. Also, random units from the mod are just useless... but it is ok.

Shadow and Flame

Mod review

This mod is great. The units have awesome variants, new units, and there is quality voicing and AI for all factions. Bugs, even though they are mentioned often, are rare.
