I'd advise removing the width adjustment, because users who use Consistent Pip-Boy Icons without VHR will see the compass clipping over the bracket, as seen in Adash's last image.
Also, yeah, leave the aHUD patch as is.

I can confirm that I am also experiencing this bug but it is not a fault with VUI+ patch.
The second picture is Vanilla HUD Remastered with the old built-in VUI+ patch active, right?
Reinstall Vanilla HUD Remastered and choose the standalone option, you'll experience the bug happen.
This is because the <width> of the compass was increased by 20, but should have also been moved left by 10. This <width> modification had been left out of the old built-in VUI+ patch.
Edit: The <width> modification is also not in the aHUD\hudtemplates.xml file, which means the bug is not present when oHUD is installed.
