Entropy : Zero 2

Mod review may contain spoilers

I mostly don't write reviews, but this mod definitely needs one from me.

This mod takes all the great things from Half-Life and its expansions together with its own unique twists. It was great to see once again enemies as bullsquids, gonomes or even pit drones. But it also brings back a cut Half-Life enemy called as stukabat.

I really like the level design and the gameplay which was really fun, same thing with the story. It was amazing to see Aperture Science test chambers in it.

As for the conclusion of this review, I have to say that this is the best mod Half-Life mod which got released in this decade. I hope there will be a sequel to it too.

Simply amazing work, I will probably play it once again in future on much harder difficulty.

Evacuation

Mod review

The demo was cool and so on, but I have thing to tell what I didn't like... the headbobbing, its nauseating and also made my head kinda hurt. The this only thing which in my honest opinion needs to be changed.

Half-Life : Echoes

Mod review may contain spoilers

Let me start by saying that this mod looks really gorgeous, as one would tell by looking at the screenshots, and the good stuff doesn't end here. The mod is very nicely pased, giving very little ammo and weapons to defend yourself, but doesn't forget to give you ways of avoiding enemies.

There's quite a lot of really nicely done, very atmospheric scripted sequences; scientists and security guards trying to fight back aliens, gargantua destroying everything around itself to get to you, etc. It might not sound special, but in Echoes everything is executed in such a way that it really comes out convincing and immersive. The only thing missing here is a general story, which this mod (like most mods) lacks.
Halls of Black Mesa are filled with bloody corpses and remains of it's workers, all of which only enforces the feeling of surrounding danger and violence, at the same time retaining the natural, slightly goofy feel that there is to Half-Life. If there's anything bad to say about it is it sometimes felt a bit too over-the-top to me.

I also found the puzzles to be quite enjoyable.

If there's any annoyances that I found with the mod, they were minor. I found the appearances of the G-Man to be unnecessary and overused, even by mod standards (I find some mods to be notorious for using the G-Man). The level of detail also felt overwhelming to me sometimes, and on at least one point I found myself stuck simply because the level of detail was so distracting.
But these were just minor and completely subjective issues I found with the mod and wouldn't probably have them haven't I looked for any.
There was also one part after mr Friendly showed up, where I had to turn several colorful switches, where I got stuck for a couple minutes, and found the way out after taking a few hours of break. Now the problem here is that the mod kept crashing whenever I tried to go the newly found way. That was the only serious technical problem that I found.

And speaking of that part of the mod, I was very positively surprised to find out that mr Friendly's appearance was not merely a brief piece of pandering or fanservice, as Friendly is an actual obstacle you should better avoid!

Overall it's a really solid and fun experience, I really liked it.
