I was able to use the addbot command multiple times and it can be much more than 8 players. It could be a 20 vs 20. As teams vary though, I made sure I use coding to spawn a bot between teams. Like Addbot 0 3 for COG and 1 3 for Locust. But sometimes a Locust character spawns on COG side and COG character spawns on Locust and it can be confusing, unless you see the weapon lights. But yeah, that's something I had fun experimenting with. As well as Nucleus Co-op for more than one player and i know a way to get 2 players on the same time. And player 2 can do glitch, as he's not host. Although it's so much mayhem, when there's 20 vs 20 or more. Teammates can be hard to revive and it's suicide, if I'm not in cover. Lol In my last match, there were a lot of Therons and COG side had a lot of Carmines. I'm glad the addbot command comes in handy with this mod. Another way to have fun with this mod, just like the Gears 3 Jacinto Build. :3
Although I really wish there were more console commands, like the SpawnPawn and SpawnWeapon and giveweapon commands. But yeah, if anyone uses Addbot, you can add as many bots in game as you want. But one thing to remember, if a round ends, all those bots you added and spawn disappear, and you'll have to use the command all over again.
One thing though is both of you will be the exact same preferred character.
Here's a trick you can do for that part: Start the game first as one player only. Then while the match start, then type "debugcreateplayer 1" and "debudcreateplayer 2". And if you're on Locust and the 3rd player is on Locust and 2nd on COG, remove the COG player with "debugremoveplayer 1". Or if player 3 is on COG, use "debugremoveplayer 2". That'll allow you to have both players on the same team.
I wish this build also had more console commands, just like the Gears 3 Jacinto Build. Where I could spawn other characters and things for AI Battles. Like "SpawnPawn Theron" to spawn a Theron for example.
"Additional characters in previous 1.3.6 version are now exclusives to New Hope." Does this mean Onyx Guard, Barrick, Helmetless Theron and Theron Elite aren't there anymore? :(
Edit: It's saddening they're not their anymore. Aw well, I do hope that New Hope comes out in time, so I can enjoy playing as the other characters. I'd enjoy Savage Drone and Aaron Griffin, if they were there for instance.

I played him in Sven Coop sometimes. He's really cool. Even though it's weird he can sound human sometimes as well as side with humans(or robots, as if they were DeeBees.). But I can pretend the Xen creatures are like Lambent to General RAAM. That's why he serves his own purpose.
