Hmm i just tested you can still upgrade Empire's capital ships. You just need capital shipyard with fighters extension attached.

I havent yet tested in 2.7.1 so maybe its bugged, but in 2.7 it used to work like this: You build a ship, say ISD. Then you need it to go to a planet with capital shipyard and advanced fighter extension. When you get there with ISD,in build options there shoudl appear an icon to upgrade the ISD. Yuo click on it, upgrade, done. Same thing for carrers and imperial shipyard and the smaller advanced fighters shipyard extension.Note that this works for the Empire and Rebel carrers. I dont know about other ships/factions. I do think Rebel capital ships cant be fighter upgraded

:) Good luck

I actually think 2.6 was even a bit harder.(tough it was becasue AI had even more insane buffs then in 2.7, it was unending waves of enemies)

Some basic advices:
1- Always pause the time when considering what to do next. Only unpause to issue commands. (you cant issue commands if its paused). Time is the greatest asset.
2- Look through all your planets and scrap all buildings that you dont need. This will give you lots of cash and decrease upkeep.
3-IF you see a bigger enemy fleet, dont despair. Hit his other planets, usually he will split the blob. Use spy droids to keep tabs on your enemies.
4-Alwys be on the offensive, this game doesnt seem to reward defensive play style.
5- Biggest money maker planets are Bespin and Ord Ibanna with the gas refineries.
6-If you want to go the easiest way, go from the beigning towards Hoth and do the Hoth mission chain : at the end you will receive an SSD, which is near undefeatable in the begining.

Overall i have won as empire on hardest difficulty mutiple times so its definitely doable.

From what i remember its actually wrong info and you need tech 3 for isd 2. Also i think the shipyard extension for advanced designs.
Some info with pics on steam i wrote a long time ago :
https://steamcommunity.com/workshop/filedetails/discussion/1397421866/1729827777359150677/

Also you can get even more interesting ships when you reach tech 4, SSDs and ISD3. But by that point you usually have wont he game so...

Yes but yourself in mod makers boots: how can they know when gog will have the patch or when the game devs will release the patch for stand alone download?

Warning some info below that could be classified as spoilers, read at your own risk:):

1- On start go through your planets and scrap all buildings that you dont deem useful. This will generate tons of additional startup cash.

2- The key for easier game early on is to go to allyuen and then hoth, complete the mission that should pop up. Upon completion you will recive SSD Executor, which is nearly undefeatable.
3- Ord Ibanna and Bespin both can build gas refineries which will produce huge amounts of money and has the quickest ratio of investement/ pay back.
4-The AI is often more easily stopped on ground, be sure to keep ground garrsions on fringe words.
5- For planets to generate more cash governors palace must be built.
6- On certain palnets (sector capitals) Moffs palaces can be built, they generate huge amounts of cash.
7-This game imho isnt meant to be played defensively, dont invest to much into stations, in fact i barely build higher then tier 1 (tier 1 i awlys build to stop AI from just sending armies to take planets). There might be a couple planets wich are key blocking multiples routes that i upgrade more, but overall , i put nearly all my money into developement and ship/army building.Assemble your fleets into 1-2 fleets and go on rampage through enemy territory, with some juicy objective in mind (Bespin maybe or Hoth to complete the mission). If AI at some points attacks and takes some planets, dont panic, fly back and retake them.

8-Early on Empires biggest weakness is weakness to fighter swarms. Build Tonfolk carrers and lancer frigates as soon as possible to counter this. (require imperial shipyard + extension for fighters for Tonfolk Carrer, Tech1 or tech2 upgrade for Lancer)

You can ofc petition Steam, or fight windmills. its every persons right. I just suggested an actually easy and working solution :).
For the record I still got the dvd box i got EAW first in and I got it on steam and GOG. Im not a rich person but ~9 dollars when its on sale? If you had enouhg money to buy a PC in the first place....And yes in a perfect world you should be ok with your CD version or GOG but this world aint perfect.

Yes unfortunately that was the intent. The mod is born out of hardcore fans love for the game. However there are a lot of advices on the net how to play it, for example on steam workshop AOTR discussion page. IF you tell me the faction you play, i might also give you some quick pointers here.

sorry but I cant understand this. You got a mod offered you for free, that took manyears to make. You got a clear explanation why it wont be added to moddb. And your solution is to threatent to flood the comments section...What happenend to basic decency and sense of gratefulness for having something for free?

How about a different solution, that doesnt require for others to work but you. Depending on where you live and whats your current age:
1- Do 1-3 hours overtime and have enough to buy the game from steam.
2- Wait for a sale that are regularly on steam and buy it for ~9 dollars, meaning even in my poor country its the equivalent of 1-2 lunches.
3- Pick up a temp job and buy it after first pay.

4- Negotiate with your parents for some house choirs so they give you the money to buy it on steam.

Well about the delay before battle, i think i read somewhere its caused by autosaving. Supposedly if you disable it, it should vanish (ofc you loose the autosave feature as well.).I havent disabled it,on my SSD its painfull, but survivable.AS for other stuff, well its an alpha, I also run into problems , usually a bit less often then you, after ~1hour of playing, the freeze do happen. IT also seems beneficial to performacne to restart the game every 1 hour or so (memory leaks perhaps?).

I had quite some trouble to figure out how to build more advanced ships as Empire, and couldnt find any info online, so decided to share what i found:

1- To build ISD2 and Praetor SSD you need a capital shipyard and shipyard extension for advanced capitals. You also need tech 2 or 3, not sure (description is often misleading atm).Subjective opinion:Praetor SSD sucks, ISD2 rocks:)
2- To build carrers and other interesting frigates you need imperial shipyard+ shipyard extension for advanced fighters. Once you build it, you can upgrade it to hold more advanced fighters.Warning i think you cant build extensions on any planet, only on some.
3- Havent tested it yet , but I think you can also upgrade your capital ships to hold better fighters, you probably need capital shipyard + shipyard extension for advanced fighters

Hope it helps somebody:)

I am not sure where i read it , but i think i read somwhere it can happen if you mix up with other mods. I would reccomend uninstalling everything from steam, and then cleaning manually the folders from any leftovers (also from the user roaming folders)

I have played for ~10 hours now and my few impressions:
1-Overall like it a lot, its awesome. Wont go into details, to keep the post short.
2- I think atm tottally offensive play is much to good: I know the AI is getting upgraded to counter this, but even abstracting from AI:
a- Each planet you conquer gives you 1000-4000 instant cash + the cyclic income+ the hidden but really big increased trade income.
b- You got a chance of gaining new storyline powerful units by going on offensive.
c- You disrupt enemy operations/plans.
On the other side, building up your infrastructure atm seems like a long term gamble:
a-A mining facility costs 3000 and brings 150.That means that to brake even you need 20 weeks!!!!. Thats a really long time, and that money could go into ships with wich you could go on offensive and gain money that way.
b-Goiong with tech from tech 1 to tech2 doesnt seem to give much benefit, i wonder if it wouldnt be better to just build more star destoryers with the money.

To summarize i think building up should be much more beneficial or offensive play rewards a bit nerfed.

I tend to agree about the AI. It seems if you go on offensive it gets shellshocked.

Well for me its pretty stable, i believe have played for around 8-10 hours now as empire.I have seen poeple complianing about graphical issues , specially on laptops, you might want to check steam workshops awakenienig of the rebbeliopn 2.7 discussions. Besides that, it works and plays and AI is good, but many descriptions are misleading(obsolete) /missing.Also you got no explanations no manual.

I am enjoying it. Compared to 2.6 , beside the changes, it seems much more polished but on highest level it doesnt seem as hard, which is a pity.

I personally like the fact that everything is expensive. It forces you to plan , and think about investing into money making building first. Its doable, im doing ok on the hardest difficulty as empire.

About defence :Well imho apart from stations you do have to have ships to defend. Thats were strategic planing comes: figuring chokepoints and defending them with ships, leaving hard to defend planets....

Can you guys be serious and read at least the begining of the anouncement? Its all freaking explained!!!.
"For now, there will not be a release on moddb, and you will only be able to find the mod on the Steam Workshop. This is because of Petroglyph only supporting the Steam version of the game with their current Save game crash fix, along with other fixes. As such, you will run into these problems trying to play the mod on the disk or GOG version. So to avoid a lot of hassle, we will only be offering the download on Steam Workshop until the other versions find a way to have the patch implemented.

Hmm i have only played one battle yesterday on the campaign map, but both on the strategic and tacticasl view the AI ships did definitely alot of moving.

My process of installation:

I had RAW mod before, so I uninstalled the game on steam, then cleaned teh steam EAW folder manually, then cleaned the windows c:/{yourusername}/appdata folders out of any EAW/RAW files. Then reinstalled on steam, and added to the steam launch options STEAMMOD=1397421866.Thats all i did, seems to work fine.

I can understand the sentiment and I dont mind easy getting easier, but do please keep Hard at least as hard as it was in 2.6 .For hardcore fans like me it was one of the big draw, that it was harder then Vanilla. And yeah i won on hard with 2.6:).
