trlestew, I had the same problem, I re-installed direct x 9 from microsoft website (even though I already had 9.0c) and that did the trick.

Redsun2020 is very comparable to Zodiac mod for Deus Ex; they are both about 15 hours to play through and they both have no sound dialogue. But that's OK! Of the two however, Zodiac is much better.

The main critique I have with RS2020 is I really can't think of any level which stands out. This is what I think makes a retrospect a good review of a mod or not: if you can remember the levels, if they stand out in the memory, then that game has made a good impression on you.

With the Zodiac Mod, even though I played it 6 months ago, I can still remember the levels: The CIA building, the water tower, the lawn, the sub-levels, the coffin chamber, the airport, the plane, the president in the bunkers, the amazing UFO in the science lab, the eerie alien underground society.

All those levels were memorable and I will always remember them.

But with RS2020, I'm struggling to remember parts; bear in mind I just literally finished RS2020 3 hours ago and all I'm remembering is vague elements of labs, sewers, some city streets, a hotel lobby, some more sewers, some labs/ security stations and a dark subway platform.

A game has to imprint an emotional character for it to be remembered and appreciated. If the RedSun 2020 opening image of a building being blown up was represented in the game: say a hostage situation overseered by a tnt laced maniac AFTER you bonded with likable hostage characters...that would be atmospheric and it would leave a psychological mark. But I never felt any real atmosphere.

All in all, 7/10.

If you love Deus Ex and you want to extend it's game life as much as you can with mods, my picks are from best to to least best:

Nameless Mod - 15-20 hours of gameplay, very professional, a total conversion, full voice dialogue, sub-missions, 2 parallel storylines, good characters (great in the case of Scara B King!), new weapons, improvements, just very professional.

Zodiac Mod - probably the only criticism is the lack of voice dialogue which makes the game almost mute apart from the music and gun sounds.

Hotel Carone: One level but a very good one. THIS is an example of great map design. The premise couldn't be more simple, basically a cube (hotel) with about 10 levels. But within this cube is great level design. This is what the Red Sun hotel level could have been but wasn't.

RedSun 2020: Bonus points if you love Japan/ Tokyo, it's OK otherwise.

Then the final part, Egyptian flavored tombs with extra terrestrial feel. I found the first chamber a bit boring to navigate but again had great atmosphere. Then you get into the lower chambers where the aliens have their society and it also had great atmosphere. Small trouble trying to find c4, so if you take that MIB womans choice to join her, it's much easier.

So all in all, very epic mod with a few glitches and maybe some level design flaws.

GREAT atmosphere.

Very epic, past the CIA headquarters.
The CIA headquarters started with some great hype music as you breach the first gate (the tower was sort of pointless), the CIA headquarters had great atmosphere but not the best design, a bit empty and had a few problems with not enough multi-tools/ lockpicks at the beginning.

At the second level as you go underground, it becomes clear that this is a big mod, as you go down the sublevels, they get a bit repetitive but bits of great atmosphere (the jumping chamber to get to that grey coffin had great atmosphere, even though nothing really happened, but that big cavern filled with (pods?) really reminded me of that eeriness in half life 2 where you enter that maniacs slave assembly line.

Small glitch with the c4 where you're supposed to blow up that science chamber, it didn't work oh well.

Major glitch near the end of the second part where you have to get the code for that elevator, the prisoner pods, there's a dead end there, don't know what to do. I cheated and went ghost through the door into the elevator, the next level you get an alien as an ally, so you probably had to talk to him in the prison pod?

From there, the airforce base is a great little sniper time, good atmosphere as you hunt from hanger to hanger, small dead end at the 747 (I could of sworn the president was there, the secret service agents really made you think it was a glitch and he just didn't appear). Anyways, then you go into that hanger and you go down and cross a long rail on a tram (with a great but simple synthesize voice, which really made the game come alive for the first time as there is no voice dialogue).

The underground bunkers were great atmosphere, you hook up with the president and then make your way into a science area with an alien ufo artifact. The UFO was great and had a special shine to it which made it even more believable, the shape and reflection of it really reminded me of the UFO in the movie Flight of the Navigator.

Great Mod.

Not as epic (ie: long) as Zodiac, but more enjoyable and satisfying.

The level couldn't be simpler, it's basically a large building surrounded by a street, so the whole gameplay is contained within this cube so there's no real uncertainty where you're supposed to go.

One little hiccup was the secret room that Alex was hiding in, it took me awhile to figure it out, but from the note you have it says its adjacent to that room so think about that...

This mod had great atmosphere, the painters scaffold elevator on the side of the building via the roof was great and reminded me sort of Die Hard. The multiple levels in the hotel also reminded me a lot of that level in Thief the Metal Age (the mechanist tower).

The intro was a bit weird/ amateurish, and the briefing/ getting to the chopper seemed a waste of gameplay and unneccesary level design to create a big building just for a 3 minute briefing, but it made it believable and the miniature replica of the hotel was GREAT.

Only one other critique would be that when you finish the objectives and return to the APC and the troops at the biggining of the level, it doesn't seem to end?

All in all, a very satisfying 3 or so hours.
