I am a hobbyist no-life who likes to make textures, 3D models, and game worlds. I don't play many games these days.

Half Life 2: Modern Mod

Mod review

Just replaces the Well-made vanilla weapons with Over-Hyped, poorly animated ones that don't at all fit the setting of HL2 and generally look poor IMO. I doubt you even made any of the weapon models, you just took them from independent releases and glued them together to call it a "full mod". And I find it difficult to understand how you'd add a more "modern" feel to the game by changing around props. Half the props are Combine-tech, and as Modern as can be, and unless you change the maps to fit the same era that your props are based off of, it wouldn't fit at all, and would just end up as a big mess. This has been done before, multiple times, and it has been done better than what you have done.

I suggest you think these things through prior to developing a mod page to increase awareness about your plans for modifying the game, or at least elaborate more thoroughly on what you intend on changing and how you are going to change it.

Just Cause 2

Game review

Marvelous game. An incredibly large world to begin with that can be expanded on. The game has virtually no limits. From the second I was finished the tutorial mission, I was able to just grab a chopper and fly wherever I wanted, see whatever I wanted, and explode whoever I wanted. I also really enjoyed playing this because it was a comfortable gaming experience. The game is hardly violent at all, even though you're given the free-roam option of obliterating anyone who gets in your path, no gore combined with silly voiceovers made anchoring people to jet planes and crashing the planes in to fishing trawlers a little more enjoyable.

A wonderful soundtrack composed of original music and ambient themes helps keep the feel of being on a tropical tourist haven floating in the player's head. Graphics are excelling. Vivid jungle and unique urban environments, combined with breathtaking action-styled explosions and object destructibility make it a treat for the senses.

While the missions and some key environments tend to get repetitive, they're certainly rewarding. The option to walk (or fly) in to any military installment with nothing but a pistol, and drive out on a fully loaded APC with more riches than the people of Panau City combined gives players the ability to set objectives for themselves instead of answering to some gang leader or local tribe.

Excellent for those looking for a fast-paced free roam shooter.

Counter-Strike: Source

Game review

Still a well known, competitively played shooter with active community members from all over the world. From the year it was released back in '04 to the present date, Valve's continued efforts to improve on the game and make sure it still remains as much like the original CS as possible, result in more and more people beginning to play and new servers are still being raised. While Counter-Strike may be a tactical shooter that not everyone can just pick up and play effectively, it's still a bargain for it's current price on Steam.

The thing that gets me about this game is the lack of detail in some maps (I'm a bit of a graphics wh*re, I know) but I understand that it would be difficult to expand on most maps without deducting from it's original tactical gameplay qualities. Luckily for me however, a few selection of maps were done by Turtle Rock studios, who managed to develop them to look like something that wasn't ported directly from Goldsource (Inferno FTW).

And to anyone complaining about the new update "ruining" the game, there are literally 5 console commands that would hide all of the stuff that Valve worked so hard to implement in to the game. Heck, some servers are even modded to exclude all of the new features, they're given an option!

Source

Engine review

Despite it's age, the source Engine is an ever-expanding, fully functional game engine with many perks and capabilities that I feel make it an excellent choice for Game Developers and Modders. While it lacks some of the qualities that other Engines posses (such as DX10+ Support and Large-Scale worlds), Valve's continued efforts to expand upon the Engine to insure that it remains compatible and glitch-free are certainly one of the many reasons why for 6 years and counting, people from all across the globe are playing and modding the games blessed with the power of Source.

I hope Valve never lets go of this one. Great graphics, sound, effects, and online support.
