i found the problem, install parts 1 and 2 normally, then same with the patches, they'll load into the correct folders in the "Medieval 2 Total War" location, but you have to move "Third_Age_3" from the mods folder to the campaigns location, and change that one to the selected campaign, that was my problem

Nope, installed the 3.0 pt1 and 2, then the 3.2 PATCH.

No, not a clue on what to do.

I installed it, changed the name of americas, then changed Third_Age_3 to "americas", i open steam and run it, the Third Age screen pops up and it immediately closes. No idea what to do.

what do i change about the cfg file?

It'd be nice to learn how to play, but the tutorial is bugged. It looks great and seems like it would be interesting, but I can't finish the tutorial.

The two-tone is more interesting, which I have no problems with. Thats just me though.

Well, I would assume not, since the Rangers play a very different role in game. You know the Commandos are quite light of course, the Rangers can soak up much more damage, and if I remember right, the Commandos aren't anti-tank.
