You need to capture every settlement of a specific region (for example: Sarsfield, Golden Tooth and Oxcross) to be able to start recruiting. You can check which settlement belongs to which region by right-clicking the House Sigil "building".
Otherwise you can only recruit (native troops to your faction) if you build regional garrisons; it's very time consuming and very expensive, and initially it's only basic spearmen.
Generally you'll be better off manually moving your troops from your innermost settlements toward the frontlines rather than recruiting locally, because you'll run out of men long before the enemy does.

Are there any additional conditions for upgrading it? I've tried it both with Greyjoys and Greyirons - so I could properly edit the win conditions file - but the wall upgrade didn't show up ever

You can upgrade it to Huge city and build tons of stuff as the Targaryens

If I may say so, the older versions also seemed less prone to glitching, although I'm not sure if it has something to do with the Others. The curent version seems to glitch at least 3x as often as Stainless Steel does, while the older versions were about the same.

The AI does also get a ton of money and are able to keep dozens of full stacks come late game, though.
Fighting these huge battles when there's always a chance the game will glitch by the end of it all is extremely frustrating, so personally I tend to avoid battles altogether in the late game and rely mostly on extended sieges, autoresolve, and diplomacy. It's an interesting (and honestly also realistic) dynamic even if it's forced by the engine's limitations.
On to the economic stuff, IMO the "Caravanersary" building needs to either be removed or hugely nerfed, and I'd also recommend nerfs to "Mason's Guild". The towns/cities tend to fall behind Castles when it comes to income because the stuff they can build (Merchant's Council, Bank, Docklands) are a lot more expensive and don't provide nearly as much of a boost to the trade income compared to the combined effect of Castles' Caravanersary, Mason's Guild, Hinterland Towns, Brothel, Paved Roads and Smith. Since towns can also build the last 4, I think nerfing the first 2 makes the most sense.

Great to see you back!

I've recently updated the win conditions file, feel free to test/edit/add it to the mod as it please you.

If I might also suggest - I'm assuming House Dryland is meant to be a hard faction to play as (like Khwarezmian Empire in SS), but their specialty is missile cavalry, which is prohibitively expensive - they simply don't have the resources required to stand against the Yronwood+Dayne alliance in the West and Nymeria's armies in the East; they could really use a buff as it is.
I'd say reduce the cost and upkeep of their missile cavalry, they are meant to be played 'guerrilla style' after all. This way players will at least be able to harass those huge stacks before they get to their settlements' gates.

I'm 99% sure the customized settlements on the campaign map (Casterly Rock, Winterfell, Oldtown, etc) are tied to Settlement Level - as well as culture, of course.

So if you were able to upgrade, say, Casterly Rock to a Citadel, it'd just become a square castle like in Vanilla, and you'd have 'Casterly Rocks' popping everywhere else as soon as they were upgraded to Fortress level - Ashemark, Hornvale, even other castles you've conquered and then upgraded.

After having played for quite a bit and with many different factions, I'm pretty sure that surviving as House Dryland is 100% impossible, lol.
Getting sandwiched between the Dayne/Yronwood alliance and Nymeria's armies is one hell of a trip.

You can check by using another command to reveal the entire map:

toggle_fow

(Use again to re-enable the Fog of War)

Hey everyone, did some research and gonna drop here a tip: At the start of a campaign, you can 'weaken' the Others by opening the in-game console (pressing ', the key next to 1 on your keyboard), and entering the following command:

surrender_regions wild

They won't be eliminated (and are NOT eliminated by having 0 settlements/family members), but they are going to spend the next few turns recapturing their own settlements, which will give the Night's Watch and the other factions more of a fighting chance.

Just an update on the economy of the Others: They now have about 7 million coins, and it's always rising, money is now a complete nonfactor to them (is this intended?)

With the new campaign script, the save file that would previously crash the game (House Hightower, turn 89) can now be loaded. :)

I've also had plenty of successful games. Playing as the Durrandons I'm at turn 55 without any problems at all, the same goes for House Tarbeck (turn 98), House Reyne (turn 58) and House Lannister (turn 41).
My first game as House Stark didn't crash while I was playing, but the save file got corrupted. In fact, the game only crashed once during gameplay (loading the campaign map after I'd won a battle in the field). Anyway, I tried playing as the Starks again and got to turn 89 smoothly.
All these saved games can be loaded and played normally.
However, playing as House Hightower I was more unsuccessful. I tried it twice and both times the save file became corrupted.
It should be noted that I almost always auto-resolve battles (about 95% of them). Edit: This was without the campaign script fix.

Thank you so much for all your effort, the mod is really awesome (definitely the best W:TW submod so far). Although, if you could also change the AI to be more inclined to accept vassalage over destruction, I'd very much appreciate it. IMO it'd feel much more rewarding to subdue other factions than outright annihilating them.
