Irrespective of ignorant speculation to the contrary, the CF Mod Team is very much alive & well, thank you very much! The time of completion has tended to expand somewhat, since OP is doing some things with the game that few modders have attempted, while continuing to expand the depth & breadth of "conventional" mod features. True, most of us on the team are not good modelers, texturers, or coders, so OP has to do most of the heavy lifting on his own. Add to that the additional work of updating the features of the SWAT Portal, and it's no surprise that a firm release date is not yet in sight.

BUT - as someone who has contributed materially to the updated storyline, socio-politcal context, and database of the mod, I can guarantee that Crossfire 1.8 will be stunning in its entirety! With a minimum of 6 new interdependent quests, many new systems, updated infocards, maps, NPC dialog, and the hundreds of other additions & improvements, Crossfire will redefine the state of the art in Freelancer modding. It will totally be worth the wait! :-)

I cannot fathom why people feel the need to disparage others' work, apart from some creative or legal infringement. The more people are working on issues like the demise of the Freelancer GLS the better, IMO. More people working together would be a preferred solution, as it would strengthen the entire FL mod community, as opposed to isolated individual sites.

There is no more challenging FL mod than Crossfire. Your piloting skills, diplomacy, and tactical planning will be tested to the limits here... :-)
