I was just able to download the Windows version. It appears to be working now.

I'll support Illwinter games practically wherever they go, but this whole experience has encouraged me to seriously reconsider ever buying anything else from Desura. It seems incredibly amateurish, although I'm willing to listen to any explanation Desura might offer as to why they've fumbled things so badly.

That might be something you would want to post in the bug thread in the forum.

haha I feel the same way. I'm going to be spending all day at work on Tuesday waiting to get back home to try Rome. I'm very happy that the Dom4 beta got released in time for tomorrow's national holiday.

I'll go ahead and disagree with your point about Dom single player. I play SP almost exclusively, and I have a blast. Now MP really is where the game shines and you can experience its design to the fullest, but SP is great for people like me who are less interested in game systems and more interested in the world that the devs have made and being able to explore it at a pace I want.

I know, right? Like Dominions 4 is going to be anything less than an 11. I can't believe those people.

Just take a leap of faith. Your pretender will reward you well.

What jtrowell said. Play Dom3 and enjoy it now, and get used to the basics of the game. It seems a lot of good improvements are being made for the new game, but Dom3 should still be a good intro for you.

Which is a shame because it used to be twice what it is now.

Just do a google search for CoE2's free version. It should be easy to find.

It is a great game, but I understand where you're coming from. There is a free version of Conquest of Elysium 2 available for download. If you can get past the ancient graphics and get around the uh "challenging" interface and get into the game, it gives a pretty good look at what CoE3 is like. In a very basic sense, at least. CoE3 has so much more *stuff* in it and it is a lot deeper strategically than CoE2.

well in a large game you typically get more than one structure that serves as citadel, so there isn't just ONE tile you have to capture, but yeah, if a player was silly enough to leave all of his citadels unguarded, a well timed attack could take all of them and end the game.

I mostly play on smaller maps because I'm more interested in toying around with all of the different characters for now, or having quick games. You don't normally have to deal with a bunch of turns of just moving around without any real action.

it was a fun game. It also convinced me never to play Burgmeister again when I'm doing co-op :p

Not necessarily. I had three packs of four, and then two packs of three.

Bro you gotta stop posting these things up when I'm at work. We're not allowed to watch youtube; you'll get me in trouble.

I think the real question might be if Battle for Wesnoth uses some of Conquest of Elysium 2's code. CoE2 is older.

Kind of ironic. This one seems like it has the potential to be more MP friendly for a lot of people than Dom3 was. I played a ton of Dom3 SP, but aside from some hotseat games with friends I never played real MP for Dom3 because the amount of knowledge of units/spells/magic items/strategies needed seemed overwhelming. CoE3, being quicker paced and seemingly less stat-heavy than Dom3, seems like it will be more accessible to the casual gamer.

Can a word like "casual" actually be applied to an Illwinter game? :p

I've been a fan of Illwinter for a while. I've been playing Dominions 3 (their game prior to CoE3), single player, since it came out over five years ago. I've basically paid fractions of pennies per hour that I've played it, and it cost about double (including S&H) what CoE3 costs.

I've played CoE2 a TON, and it is for free. I feel like I owe it to them to buy CoE3 just out of the sheer enjoyment I've had playing CoE2, and #2 is ugly, with a horribly obtuse UI. IF CoE3 was NOTHING MORE than prettier visuals and a slightly easier way of finding out information about spells/units/items I'd buy it. From what I've been reading in the discussion thread, and from what I've seen in the development log, the game has a lot of new features that I'm itching to see. I understand the desire to play a demo before buying, and I'd recommend that for just about any game, but let me tell you that paying ONLY $25 for this game will probably turn out to be one of the greatest game buying deals you'll ever make.
