I enjoyed those and hope you are keeping up with the latest patches etc. I look forward to more as we get things more polished and ship-shape down the line.
So i'm back from my holiday and i'll be needing this latest download to see where we are at. I'll be a few days just getting my routine back in order but then i'll carry on with helping out where i can.
@ Ori'verda, it sounds like an installation issue to me.
The detailed answers to your question will no doubt be on the piratesahoy website, but that has been having issues recently, but the owner Keith has said it should be back up soon, so if you can't find the answer here(look around the posts in the other sections here, like 'the patch 5 released' thread), you should be able to get one at the main site soon.
I'm not familiar with running this game on Windows 7, so i don't know the issues around that i'm afraid, but the answers will be on the main site.
@zaliznyhnk, You need to edit that in the game files OR play the game for some time and make enough money to get powerful enough to buy/capture bigger and better ships. You can change your character appearence by going to the various 'tailor shops' around the game and buying a new look.
remember this is an rpg game, so don't jump before you can walk ;)
ok, we can always get to it through this news item, the normal Modb forum is not what we are after ;)
oh and just one thing i noticed, the forum you set up here Pieter, is it possible to add a link to it in the main sections headings for New Horizons? so to fit alongside the current, 'summary', 'news', 'features', 'tutorials' etc tabs? It will make it easier to quickly find :)
Overall, as the article kind of captures, i had a blast in both and positive and negative sense! So yeah, the Build Mod is looking ship-shape matey.
For the situation with no access to the world map, i have a couple of caveats that might be worth keeping in mind. Possibly with all the different levels of function choice in terms of the info you get from navigational aids(compass/spyglass), we need to either reduce that range of choice, to make things a bit more obvious to the player what effect they will have in game, or(/and?) improve/reduce the range of info available from a specific bit of equipement.
I did write lots of detail here, but exceeded my 2000 word limit! So i'll move it to one of the new temp threads here!
Did I tell you how much i love the new Direct Sailing mode! more awesome than awesome! :)
Good job Pieter. Does this mean all the resources like the bugtracker and ftp sites are also down until piratesahoy.net is back up? And will this affect the planned patch 6 release?
Keith and William are not in the hurricane zone of the usa are they?! I assume the servers are based with them in the usa?
I sorted out the messy formatting, and thanks for the replies. This is 'Part one', and i have the next installment in the works :)
@ Legendary_Spider, aha a sound guy :) Ok i was going to try and botch this myself in Audacity, but for a good long while now i've been wanting to increase the sounds of the sea against the ships hull in PotC+Build Mod. I think there are fairly low sounds of this in the general 'at sea' sound effects, but compared to the levels for wind and sail luffing they are almost inaudible. What do you suggest would be the best way of boosting those sounds in the current file we have for the 'at sea' section of the game? I'm aiming for something a little better balanced than the current file, but not so strong as to dominate the sound track - keeping in mind that on bigger ships you would be further away from the sound of the sea against the hull(but still hear it!).
@ Miklkit - that's a shame about the Brig_N1 model, what is the issue with it? And i'm wondering if it is a locator issue(like too many etc), do you think other ships in the Build so far also have those issues, thinking on the screen clutter bug etc?
And a general question for those that know, re formatting when posting 'Features' etc. I copy/pasted my recent feature from word into the features here, but it got pretty screwed up, what should i use to avoid those kind of formatting issues in future? Any tips?
And to further expand on what Miklkit mentions, at game install DO NOT select any of the options for graphics fixes(like Swiftshader etc) - This bit is not that clear, and will be cleaned up later in future installs i suspect, but you want the 'default' option which in no special option for graphics(i can't remember the exact wording now), when navigating through that screen during the install.
sadly it sounds like you might be one of those unlucky few that are going to have issues. Are you using a laptop btw? most people that have problems with the game seem to be using laptops. I figure it is down to the GPU's most use or the way laptops use their GPU's.
Just so you have something to compare with I used to run the Build Mod 12 Full version fine on:
Athlon64 2.0 GHz single core
1 GB Ram
And i now run Build Mod 14 beta fine on:
Athlon FX-60 2.6 GHz dual core
3 GB Ram
You might have to try out either Build Mod 13 full, OR even Build Mod 12 Full, to get a smoother game on a laptop? Sucks i know. Have you tried running with your GPU's settings at low(no Anti Alising, no enchanced graphics filters etc?)?
Sadly giving detailed help here is hard, and probably the answers you need are on the piratesahoy forums, which are going through big problems currently :(
Yep forums are down again, i'm trying out 'Direct Sailing' as i figure i have the time in terms of the next patch release now ;)
As Miklkit mentions, you got to allow the rename.bat file to run. IIRC it pops up a prompt during the installation process and you need to select 'yes'(y). It nearly caught me out the first time i tried to run the Build 14 beta plue patch beta 5.
Also you should(at least i always do) install the basic game first, run a game of that to ensure it all loads up ok, then quit and install the mods over the game. This way you can tell if your problem is with the actual game or the mod.
