Is there a reason why the Nords have horned helmets? Personal choice?

Also, last time I played. Lords seem faster than usual and I can't catch up with them with 30 or so guys when they have like a 100+ to do their quests. Is this intended?

The only problem, I'm seeing initially is that lords have huge troop sizes and companions are like 100+ denar wage. Does this scale nicely with the mod? I don't want a couple of companions bankrupting me too fast.
