Haegemonia Explorer is a program you can find in the Haegemonia Modding Tools package. It can be used to open and edit level files that are compressed. Uncompressed level files can be opened directly in a text editor - Notepad++ recommended.

You can find the level files in Game_Inf\Levels.

You can colonize planets even on level 1, but the colony ship is not automatically available. You need the following:
1. Colonization Tech
- Basic Biotech
- Basic Colonization
2. Ship Hull
- Colonization Ship under Ship Tech & Hulls

Make sure you have a planet you can colonize. You might also need additional colonization tech to start colonizing.

Well, it's been a long time... :(

I can confirm this bug exists, oddly enough I never noticed it. I haven't touched the generator for such a long time, I'm not sure if I can fix this problem at this point.

But you can certainly use a Text editor (like notepad++) to edit Game_Inf\Levels\Level Multiplayer Random\level.inf. Just change Owner = "NONE" to Owner = "Empire1" and Owner = "Empire2" for any planets you find. Search for Base = "Planet" or Base = "PlanetMoon" to locate planets.

As for Type of game = CC..
CC stands for Colonial Conquest - another mod, which was one of my side projects some time ago. It is actually a fully functional total conversion mod based on another game called Freelancer. Even though the mod is playable (and pretty fun to play too) I never released it to the public. This is because I used models directly from Freelancer and I'm not sure I want to run into any Intellectual Property issues.

Seeing that this summer brought quite some interest in the mod, I'll put up a news entry asking if the community is interested in me picking up development.

I have also noticed this before and tried to fix the issue, but unfortunately I fear you are out of luck.

The plugin for 3ds max 5 can only EXPORT models, it can't import them back in - and as we don't have the original max files for Haegemonia's ships, we are totally out of luck.

A good-for-nothing solution for pre-placed units is using the "Scale = " option in the level.inf file. Unfortunately this only works on a single, pre-placed unit.

Hi Zsolt!
This is probably because of the sound system error common on current systems. Please try installing the Sound System Error Fix you can find in the downloads section, and tell us if that works.

Thanks!

Well, as far as I know there is no specific website that has TSH Skirmish maps for download. Your best bet is the Addons section here; of course if you find a website we are not aware of, please do share the link!

First, you need to create your systems individually. Make sure to save them as separate files. Then, use the produce screens to add them to a single file, add your empires and finally generate the level.inf.

I just tested the download, and it seems to work. Could have been some temporary server-side error.

I don't own the GOG version, but from what I've gathered over the years, the executable is pretty much the same, except that there is some sort of a "GOG Launcher" that patches the whole thing in-memory.
Problem is that because I don't have a GOG version, I don't quite know how it works. Whatever the case, creating such an exe modification would technically be the same as creating a No-CD hack, which obviously violates the EULA on way too many levels.

This is great news, thanks for sharing! I will make a news post out of it, if you don't mind.

Did you include a multiplayer fix as well? There were multiple approaches to that problem, if you are interested, I can share you some info on the subject.

Dear bucky699,
The mod does not add support for extra resolutions. You can TRY forcing the 1920x1080 resolution though - I've never tested it myself, so nobody knows what will happen. It might work - or it might not.

Go to start, run. Type regedit, press enter.
Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/Software/Digital Reality/TheSolonHeritage
On the right side change the ResolutionX and ResolutionY entries to your liking.
And tell us if it worked or not :)

Well, it's been a very long time since I've used Tib's Mission Editor, but you might try saving it in a non-modder version (just answer no) and see what happens.

Level Planner should work, though. I'll send you a message to discuss the details.

I have just started a forum thread for the save game issue. Have a look here:
Moddb.com

Let's put together what we have and see if something crops up.

I haven't had much time to work on this in the past couple of days, but I'm going to open a forum topic on this sometime soon - in a day or two perhaps, next week the latest.

That is where the problem begins.

Weapon hardpoints are coded into the 3d model file (*.bmod) - this is why the game crashed when you defined hardpoints in the inf file that are inexistant in the bmod. Digital Reality's models have never been reverse-engineered. All we have is an exporter for the old 3ds max 5. No importers at all.

It was for this that we have been able to create new ships for MU4. But then again, we do not have the original max files, neither for VP 1.0 (the original devs couldn't provide them) nor simple TSH.

The problem is that I have been doing double hardpoints assignments a lot, that is how for example the A-Wing Mk.2 works. I do not have the original A-Wing max file so I had to stick to what I have.

I'm afraid our only hope here is several days worth of hex editing trial and error to see if we can add hardpoints manually into bmod files. Do you feel like helping with this one? I have an idea on how to get started on this, but I won't be able to do it alone.

In the end this appears to be a yes and a no. The craft you listed do not have such assignments. However, I have created a test save with A-Wing Mark IIs and XJ X-Wings. These craft do have these dual assignments.

I loaded another save, and when I tried to reload the savestate, the game crashed.
However, when I started up a default settings Firestorm map game and immediately went to the in-game menu to load the mentioned save file, it did actually load.

So it sure seems that it depends a lot where you load the save from. Could you try loading yours from a default Firestorm map?

I'll have a look at your list and see if any of those ships have dual hardpoint assignments (see HunZolka's post for details).

Thanks for the report - with every single detail we are closer to narrowing down the problem with saved games. Also, I have made the "Loading saved games" tutorial open for anyone to edit, so should you have any findings, feel free to add it there.

Hi! Nice to see one of the locals around :)

Well, for the sound system error, try this:
Moddb.com

Remember to make a backup of your exe before overwriting it.

For loading saved games, try loading it both from the main menu and from in-game and see what happens. We have very limited information on this crashing bug, and by far this has been our best shot.

I will try to see if Nussknacker's list has any ships with dual hardpoint assignments. If there is a match, we might have found a possible cause for this crashing error.

Well, if that's the case, let's make it official. I will transform this into a tutorial so the information will be available to anyone, easily.

So to sum things up: If you have problems loading a saved game, try loading from the main menu - if that doesn't work, start a skirmish game, press ESC and load the file from that menu.

Collection of answers to MIRELICUS:

Land battles are unfortunately not supported. A clone wars mod is not planned - we would need a team to help out with that.

Larger ships and planets are supported within reason. Haegemonia has a pretty solid engine, which means you could play around with sizes. However, the current size of the SSD Executor is about the practical maximum for ships, because you would get difficulties travelling through jump nodes.

By the way, if you have several questions, I recommend opening a thread on our Forums. We visit that one as well, and it's more space-efficient.

This is only possible in a way similar to the experimental starfighter factory, which is already in the game.
I've actually been playing around with the concept of having a base function like a planet, but preliminary tests didn't show promising results.

Hmm, interesting concept, I like it. That would make for something totally different - something like the Master of Orion series.

Actually, Haegemonia already does this: planets have a gravitational zone, and if any of your ships are close to a planet, they will slow down. The effect is very subtle, but it is noticeable. I wonder if it is actually hardcoded or not - and how well the AI could cope with such a modification.

One more thing you can try: I have been doing a bit of testing and it seems that it actually IS important how you load the game. One of my saved games crashes when trying to load it from the main menu, but.. If I start a new game from skirmish mode and load from the within-game menu it works.

Try that and see if it helps.

Indeed it is, unfortunately. However, if anyone (including you) has some time to do a bit of extra research on what causes the problem, we might learn to live with it.

Obviously, TSH has a problem with saving something that is VP-specific - but what is it?
Is it caused by any VP ships built? Or VP inventions researched? Or the presence of AI players? If the issue would be narrowed down I'm sure some players might find it useful.

Unfortunately because we have no knowledge on the save file structure, we can't look into this one, either.

Sure, I can help. The folder is wrong, though. Note that whatever you do ALWAYS keep a backup of your files in case something goes wrong.

You will need Microsoft Excel (yea, that's right!). Start Excel and go to File, Open.. Select text file for file type and open Game_Inf\Inventions\SHIP TECHNOLOGY HULLS.txt. In the open dialogue box set your delimiter to be TAB and set data type TEXT for EVERY column. Open the file. Search for _SW_Venator and type AUTO into Column N. Save your file.

It should be that easy. However, note that after you do this, your copy of VP will no longer be compatible with others for multiplayer play and of course game balance will also be changed.

The Executor is a massive ship, and so it requires that other ships do not block its hyperspace path. Make sure that neither the enemy nor your own ships are near the flagship.

I have a few ideas that could be achieved, but if I don't get some serious outside help - a small team to help out - then unfortuantely it is unlikely.

However, if anyone wants to start forming a team, I'm happy to teach anyone the modding aspects of Haegemonia.

File sizes seem to be okay. You know, this has happened to me once or twice, a really long time ago. Therefore, the positive note is that it doesn't have anything to do with Vector Prime.

This whole thing was caused by a rights violation due to an aggressive firewall/antivirus software. TSH makes "network" calls to localhost which is considered network traffic by some firewalls, even though it actually physically isn't. This also explains the inability of the program to load the AI files and the fact that everything changes with the other EXE used.

Try completely disabling your firewall and antispyware protection and see what happens.
