id Software, since more than a decade, is just a brand. The remaining founders sold the company and left shortly thereafter. The "devs" have very little to do with the people who made Quake except the one artist who made textures who stuck around for a bit longer.
The homage is Quakespasm and vkQuake. Making KEK engine today does not compare to Mike Abrash and Carmack's assembler wizardry that made Quake run in 1996 on an original Pentium.
Arcane Dimensions, on the other hand, is a titanic effort and clearly surpasses all the proprietary fluff made for the KEK engine.
