I'm happy to be able to say I know exactly what the cause of that crash is, and it's already been addressed for the next update. Thank you.

Okay, then what you need to do is go to HelloClan.eu, make a free account, and you'll get access to everything you need. HelloClan is the last remaining BfVietnam community, and worth joining, especially if you also want to play with other people online.

Do you have the V1.21 patch of Battlefield Vietnam installed?

Wait a minute, I think I know what the problem is for both of you. You need this as well: Drive.google.com

How did you install the mod? Did you overwrite existing files or put the downloaded files for the mod alongside the ones already there?

If you go over to HelloClan.eu and make an account, a modder named ZaliaS has made a widescreen mod for the game that's supposed to fix that.

If you've got crosshairs with vehicles and certain weapons, then it isn't the mod, it's your computer. I've heard of that problem before, and it means your PC can't display the animated crosshairs, but it can show the static one that doesn't move or change. You should probably search the internet for more information, but as far as I know, there's no solution.

Mod patched 3/17/24 with fix for missing A-7 Corsair weapons. If you downloaded the mod prior to this comment appearing, download it again and reinstall it to fix this problem.

Put the shortcut on your desktop, and the folder named "OnePointThree" in your "Mods" folder in "Program Files (x86)/EA Games/Battlefield Vietnam".

The shortcut goes on your desktop, and the file folder goes in the "Mods" folder in the main "Battlefield Vietnam" folder, which should be in "Programs (x86)/EA Games".

Just to be clear for anyone who wonders why this isn't working with a particular mod, it's because the patch relies on edits to a file that exists in all mods, which means that the mod itself has to be edited to allow it. It's not possible to make a single patch to increase the player count that automatically works on all mods.

Operation Remembrance itself should directly support this in the next update. It's on my list of things to do.

Oh, yes. That'll only work with the base game, sorry. It'll take some extra work to make this mod work with that many bots. Now that I think about the changes that'll have to be made, it should be easy to do and fit in with some other changes that I want to make, so I should be able to put support for 256 players/bots in the next update.

There are more changes than that which need to be made, including in BfVietnam.exe and Menu.rfa. Here, use this instead: Moddb.com
Note that this mode won't work in "Instant Battle". You have to run a local co-op game from the "Multiplayer" menu.

I think you'll be happy to know that I have the BM-21 working with the artillery spotting view thanks to your recommendation to look at the POE code.

There are records of the NVA using the Mi-8. They didn't have many and mostly used them in the last years of the war, but they definitely had them. One Point Three isn't intended to be absolutely historically accurate like Operation Remembrance. It's just supposed to be a fun expansion of the original game. And thanks for the advice about POE. I'll give that a look.

Yes, I'm well aware of that with the T-72. I changed the files so that even if a map tries to spawn a T-72, it spawns a T-54 instead. This even works on custom maps. I did the same thing for the Ka-25 helicopter as well, because that wasn't used in Vietnam either. Trying to spawn that will instead spawn a Mi-8 gunship.

The BM-21 now works exactly like in Operation Remembrance, with no recoil, a high rate of fire, and rockets that arc like real artillery. I'll try adding the artillery view, but I don't think it will work. There are about five lines of code that make that camera mode work, and looking at them, I don't think they'll work properly with a weapon that can turn in a full circle. I think that's why the BM-21 doesn't already have that.

The SA-7 kit now has a MAT-49 for the NVA, and an MP40 for the Viet Cong. On maps with few or no aircraft, the NVA instead get a MAT-49 and time bombs, and the Viet Cong get a Kar98k with a rifle grenade launcher.

I might change the sight a little bit, but not much. Apart from the sight being square, which I can't do much about, it looks the way it's supposed to. The real M1 Garand didn't have a big rear sight.

I've thought about it, but it's not likely to happen. It's too much work for a time when I'm getting ready to move on to other projects. Even once 1.2 is out, the next version, 1.3, will only focus on adding some new features and refining existing ones. I don't think we'll ever see something as large as a new campaign beyond the First Indochina War in V1.2.

I had originally planned to stop modding after this update, but there are a lot of features I want the mod to have that just can't make it into V1.2 because of how much there is. And the WW2 mod technically has been done before. A team did a full conversion of Bf1942 to BfVietnam. They got it mostly done, but by their own admission and also by the code in the "finished" product, they really didn't know what they were doing. It's at least playable, and worth checking out if you're interested, but it's nothing like what I want to do. And yes, as much fun as it would be to make a map like 'Omaha Beach in Vietnam', which I've thought of doing, it pushes the historical accuracy too far, so I think the revised version of Starlite will be the main feature in that regard. I almost feel like I'm going too far with the fictional "Operation Whispered Breath" and "Across the DMZ", but those maps are too good to not use.

Well, most of the USMC landings weren't exactly done under fire, so there isn't much to do there. I wouldn't want to make a map based on, say, the famous landings at Da Nang, which were done into friendly territory with no actual combat, because that would be too inaccurate. However, I think I'll be able to get the same basic idea into at least one map: with the new "Operation Starlite", I'll removing the US airbase and adding one of the new Essex "Landing Pad Helicopter" ships and some landing craft. There might be another one, but I'm not sure. And this isn't going to be the end of Operation Remembrance. There's going to be one more version that's going to add some new features, hopefully completely overhaul the AI, including their pathfinding on all maps, and some other tweaks. And while I do have other projects that I want to move to, I've got some inspiration to do a WW2 mod (sort of a mini-conversion of Forgotten Hope) done in the style of Operation Remembrance. Other people have requested that as well, including my wife, so we'll see about that once V1.3 comes out.

Have you actually downloaded this version, V1.1? The ringing ear sound effect was removed in the previous patch, V1.02. This one, V1.1, also completely overhauls the explosion sound effects to a new system that bases the sound on the size of the explosion effect and the surface the explosion happens on. There are only about six explosion sound effects in the base game, while the current version, V1.1, has roughly forty-eight.

The medium and heavy mortars still use the same mechanics as the previous version, just with additions to make them easier to aim. The Type 56 rifle has the folding bayonet, and the Type 56-1, AKM, and AKMS use a knife-type bayonet.

Anything related to online play, especially over LAN, really isn't my specialty. I would recommend heading over to HelloClan.eu and asking for "IceSkater" or "LTShaun". They're the ones who are most likely to be able to help.
