You can also use "Esc + J" to teleport to any of the exit points on the current map (Eg. If you are at the Bar you will be able to teleport to Garbage exit, Army Warehouses exit or the Wild Territory exit. If you are at the Cordon you can use "Esc + T" and choose the final level with "Equip for level" in order to skip the quests and enter freeplay mode. Hope it helps.

The canon designs have pirate paint jobs. Perhaps it really is necessary in order to make them look a little more authentic. Perhaps some scorch marks and weapon damage would help too.
