i'm getting around to reading the Horus heresy books and just now got to book three. a great read so far, wish they didn't jump characters so often tho.
color, lighting and composition wise one of my favorites from the older covers.
still don't know what battle that is supposed to be though, there was nothing like that in the book itself.
Funnily a lot of the cover art depicts scenes not actually happening in the book they're on, only with marines from the same legion involved.
My guess is, this is happening during the defence of Terra. We definitely see loyalist Death Guard and Imperial Fists fighting traitor Death Guard and a greater Daemon of Nurgle.
The two Death Guard in front, are they the uncorrupted ones? They looks like helping the imperial fist in the image
Must suck for the Astartes directly around/underneath the Great Unclean One.
